looking to buy a 1991 non turbo need advice

Hello,

I'm new to the forums and the world without pistons. I have tried to "search" button but I didn't find too many answers on point. So I appreciate you all reading this and any answers you may have regarding my decision and questions.

I have my eyes on a 91 5spd with 74 original miles garage kept, red, black leather interior, BBS wheels, convt Ttop for $5,000- nothing rebuilt.

I am going to see the car this week. Ok so here's the advice I have gotten:

1) checkline the driveline
2) check universal joint
3) run the car at 35-40 mph and pop into 5th to look for smoke.
4) of course, check the most expensive parts on the car- the ***** and switches
5) straight body and all the other common sense things
6) all minimal leaks are internal.

http://rx7.voodoobox.net/infofaq/bguide/bguide.html

SO my questions are:
1) is the price too high? I know kbb for private party is ~$4,600.
2) I ran a carfax and everything is good.
3) what are the major things-problems common to these cars to look for at this mileage- (alldata.com was too volumnous)

I thank you very much for your time.

CHiB-ster

If the car was kept up (fluid changes & so forth while it was sitting all that time), with 74K it's your call- drive it, if she feels good & solid, and revs up nice & easy (when warm), you'll fall in love with it, if it's your first rotary...If you feel good paying $5500, then pay it...

surely you mean 74,000 miles, not 74 miles? in any case, check out this page on aaron cake's site: http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/buy1.htm

I don't think it covers anything specifically for the convertibles, but it's a good list anyway. look around the rest of his site too, you'll find a lot of tidbits about the 7s which you won't read anywhere else.

Ah yeah, I meant 74K miles.

Thanks for all your help. I just closed the deal tonight and I am picking up my 7 thursday from the dealer after inspection.

$5K for my first rotary. I can't wait.

ah, it's at a stealership! that explains the high price.

well congrats and have fun with it. you do know they burn oil right? check the level every time you get gas and top off as necessary. everything else you'll figure out as it comes your way

LOL, no its from a private party. I am taking it to the dealership to have it checked out. The lady I am buying from would not budge from her price of 7K so we met at the middle for 5K.

I guess we'll see on Thursday.

Thanks again.

There are a few rotary specialists in the south bay. Have them take a look instead of some dealership. Good luck with the car, it sounded like my old car too. Original old lady owner who garaged it and maintained it well. (70K miles when I bought it.)

How did you like it, Dan? Was it your first rotary?

See for yourself. I still miss it. I want to contact the new owner and ask to buy it back. Hard to find clean FC's these days. Yeah, it was my first rotary.
