Looked at a '87 turbo today....thinking of buying???

I looked at a '87 Turbo today, cars on ebay and not too far from me.

Orignal car,, no mods at all factory everything. around 80k miles,, two owners,, both in there 50s

When I first started the car it didnt want to idle,, it wasnt surgeing, just ideling very low and needed to be reved slightley to stay running. After a few minut or two it idled just fine on its own,, but still seemed to idel a bit on a low side. I drove it and everything seemed fine, cars in very nice shape with the excption of some rust on the bottom of both fenders.

What should I be looking to pay for a car like this? I'm a bit worried about spending a lot of money on the car then having to rebuild the engine or turbo.... I need it to be reliable and want to use it as a dailey driver w/out having to put to much into it.

Am I taking a big chance and expecting to much out of such an old rotary engine?

Thanks in advance for any help

If the cars purpose is just to be a daily driver car and you have no big hp goal then I would just go n/a instead of turbo you'll be much better off. Get a compression test done to make sure the motors good b4 buying one. I really can't say how much i'd pay unless ive seen it. Good luck!

Sorry to say it bro, but if this car wasn't treated with regular maintenance, which I hardly ever see, you're better off getting a Toyota.

That should help.

Everone I've asked told me to do a compression check,, thing is I'm not going to be able to before the auction ends, I have school, then work till 7 everday this week.

So, under 3500 is a good price? I'm feeling a little more confident in it now that I've found this place and see there is a lot of infomation on them.

I talked to a friend of mine who has a non-turbo '88 and he says the idels normal espechally after it sits for a while, says his does it sometimes too. It didnt take long at all before it idled on its own,, maybe one minuet.

It's pretty typical for the oil pressure gauge to malfunction, if it runs, I would say it's likely a faulty gauge.
