Yes, wrap it. If you don't, the hot engine bay air will likely just heatsoak your intake tube anyway.

As far as doing a CAI mod, I think you'll just need a different connector for where it goes into the AFM.

Apparently (if I remember correctly from the person who originially did this mod) it doesn't really get very wet or at least very affected. That is, unless you drive through a huge puddle or something (don't go to New Orleans ).

I am pretty new to rotaries, but I know that some people prefer to put in a bypass valve to keep the engine from hydrolocking (piston engine in mind...I actually have no idea what would happen in a rotary) if by some chance you were to suck enough water into the filter driving in deep enough water...like I said tho...that was for piston engines and I am an extreme noob on rotaries.

It's pretty hard to hydro lock a rotary engine.

Well that is good considering how low it is! (looks real good btw forgot to say that b4) Anyway, if it were me (im a little too precautionary) I would probably still consider the baypass valve...it is about 50bucks tho if I remember right, so that might be a deciding factor in my checkbook. More than anything just dont drive in deep water.

Yeah. Not that an RX7 should be in deep water regardless of whether you have this intake or not .

Looks great, you did a CAI the right way as it is a true CAI and not a cone in the bay that some people claim as CAI hurray

Great job! It always feels good to come up with your own mod. Beside the water issue shouldn't you be concerned with road debris such as small metal objects, pebbles etc.?

Don't get me wrong it looks great, but is the HP gain worth risking some foriegn object being sucked up into your engine? Or would that be irrelavent?

First off, he did not invent this mod...

Second, a little bit of water won't do anything. It MIGHT make the engine stutter for a second or to, at MOST. Think -> While doing the H20 treatment, people cycle GALLONS of water into the engine, to clean up the carbon on the inside. Do you think a drop of water (which will likely be evaporated on the way up the intake path - but thats another story) will cause any damage? And hydrolock? You BASICALLY can't hydrolock a rotary engine ...

Edit: If a pebble can get through you're filter, then you need a new filter. And if you're REALLY concerned, as I normally am, take a stainless sheet and make an ... "undertray" for under the intake.

I didn't say he invented it. I gave him credit for taking the initiative to think outside the box and be creative. As he stated it was the 1st mod he had done to the car. That's pretty cool in my book.

Great point about the water. Great idea about the undertray.

.. change out that paper element to a stainless mesh. that paper will rot and get wet if you live anywhere that has any kind of wet weather.. wet paper elelments are reduced in flow easier to perforate and if it stays wet it will mold up and just fall apart. Injen, AEM and a few other companies have done this for years for the civic crowd.. they are guarenteed to 'hydrolock' as someone said, and rot away. AEM had to make that in line, vaccume flapper system just for that reason alone.
