Dont waste your money heat wraping it plus it looks stupid. The air is hardly in there long enough to cause large changes in intake temp. You would have much greater results heat wraping the source "exhaust" keeping the bay temps down to begin with.

Nice, I did the same thing on my S4 after reading about it on the forums this summer. One thing that really helps keep the filter protected is to grab some cheap sheet metal and make a coverplate that replaces the brake duct.
It also helps to get a good filter too. Alot of the filter kits out there are pure crap, especially the one that came with the Prelude intake I salughtered to make the CAI.
I went with the Apexi Power Intake filter after reading this: http://www.mikekemper.com/elantra/filters/index.html
It wasn't too expensive either, $79 off of eBay with the 75mm flange I needed.

- Go under the car and cut a piece of cardboard to the proper shape
- Overlay cardboard on sheet metal (purchased from Home Depot's Racing Development dperatment) and cut shape out w/ 1/2" border (so I cut 1/2" away from the cardboard all the way around)
- Cut 1/2" slots at the corners of the piece, score the actual outline of the cardboard, then bend back and hammer the 1/2" overlap inwards to get rid of the sharp edges
- Use a holesaw to create a little hole for the manual headlight retractor (better wear gloves though, might lose a finger otherwise)
- Drill holes for sheet metal screws (locations will depend on what you want to mount it too, mine mounts to the wheel well cover and the bumper), four screws is enough so you can easily remove it in the future for filter cleaning, etc.
- Spray cover with a durable anti-rust paint (I primed mine then used an undercoating spray) then mount

Hmmm... I don't how much difference leaving the stock air tube in the system would make. I know if muffles the intake noise (I noticed a huge increase in intake noise switching from a cone filter/stock air tube to the CAI with the metal tubing.)
I attached some more pics of where it goes into the fender and where I put the brass nipple (which is threaded, glued, and RTVd to assure it doesn't leak .)
The only thing I don't like about this setup is that the AFM might hit a strut bar when I put one in (I'll know in a week or so when my order comes in.)
