limp home mode

Ok. My s5 is giving me hell.
Its just started doing it and i cant figure out what it is.

Im pretty sure the car is going into limp home mode.
The car is very very rough to drive and has a unsmooth idle.

If i reset the ecu by disconnecting the battery for 30 seconds.
the car runs beautiful for 30 seconds then it starts ******* around.

The car has excellent compression and i just put new spark plugs(factory) and new fuel filter and air filter in it.

I dont know how to pull codes out of the ecu, ive done a search by all the methods mentioned are not working on my car.
Any help is appreciated.
If someone can at least tell me what systems will make the car go into limp home mode then i can check those systems. i have the factroy manual handy but it dosnt really direct you.

http://www.1300cc.com/howto/how2/codes.html is the standard procedure if you havent attempted this yet.

The only thing on an S5 that will cause true limp mode is a MOP related code. If the MOP or stepper motor failed it may have taken the ECU out as well, best to replace both at the same time.

Ive done all te required checks for the OMP. and everything is to spec.

The car runs perfect for 30 seconds then starts acting like a dog.

Is there any other ways of checking for errors.

I ground the connector. and my engine light does nothing. I am asking for a different method to get error codes, possibly by using an LED light or a multimeter?

He didnt mean anything by posting the link again, it just wasnt clear if you had tried to check the codes yet with that method.

Does your CEL come on when the key is in the ON position? Does the light come on during driving?

Never seen the Check engine light coming on, im starting to doubt if the light actually works.

Does it sit in the main dash were the speedo and rever is or does it sit in the centre console were the radiator light etc is?

I had exact same problem: as soon as I give gas, my seven went into limp mode. I replaced the omp (oil metering pump) and problem solved. BTW, you can get a used omp from a member here for about US$50.

no, if your compression is gone, so is your engine. your engine is running on one rotor.
