why did my old 87 Base parts bitch have "GXL" on the side?

Who knows? Dude, I've seen GXL and GTU stickers on 1st gens

The doesn't sound like your standard "rice" to me...sounds like somebody just wanted to feel special. Those stickers are available at every car parts store you can think of.
