Lightweight Flywheel
I've just been told that to change a flywheel from a stock to an aftermarket lightened, I need to pull the front cover off and change the front counterweight.......Now, I'm 99% sure that this is not the case, since the stock flywheel only has the rear counterweight built in it. I have the rear counterweight, and my impression is that i just remove stock and install new flywheel with counterweight.
God, I sound like such a newb.

From what I read you need to change the front counterweight to an automatic tranny counter weight within the same series engine. I'm not %100 clear on this, but I think this is how it goes, judging from what I read.
I dont know if its the front counterweight that gets changed, but I do know that you need an automatic counterweight from the same series engine.
If you need one for an S4 I have one thats brand new still in its mazda box.
Shoot me a PM if your interested.

You need the auto counterweight from your same series car. S4 uses S4 auto counterweight, S5 uses S5 auto. And this has been covered a billion times, I think. Search, and don't mess with the front counterweight.

I know the rear counterweight has been covered a billion times, I have bought a rear counterweight.
How many times do you get questions regarding the front counterweight?? Notice the 99% sure statement? Some people get on the "SEARCH!" bandwagon a little too fast.....especially looking at the post counts.

Just adding some search terms so I can find this thread while searching...(I wish we could search for all matches)
which counterweight to use change

If anyone needs to buy a counterweight on short notice, and can't find any in the Parts for sale section, here are the part numbers from Mazda:
S4 Counterweight: N327-11-521A
S5 Counterweight: N351-11-521
S4 Counterweight: N327-11-521A
S5 Counterweight: N351-11-521

No hard feelings Roen, I just hate it when people post the wrong info, when they have absolutely no knowledge on the subject.
I've got no problem with asking questions, but personally, I have found that when I ask questions, sometimes I still have to find the answer myself. Occasionally, I even go back and post my findings in my own thread, so someone might be able to find it later, and it could help them out. I mean, there are a lot of knowledgeable guys on here, but I'd hate to see you mess some stuff up because somebody said, "Yeah, I think that's the way it goes." Well, now that that is taken care of...good luck with your car, and take it easy.

Ya,Dave is Good to deal with, and He ships Quick too.I'd rather deal with a Forum member anyways.I walked into a dealer to ask for Rx7 Parts and the guy looked at me like I was going to Hold him up!..and the Parts Guy Knew absolutely Nothing!.I had the Part#'s and you could hear him start to breathe easier,as I think he didn't even know how to Operate the Fishe Machine!..bunch of Froggin *****!..back to the Question,Ya,Counterwieght, from an Automatic,Same series.Fidanza sells them separate from their flywheels too.
