Lexan Windows/Weight Reduction Question

So here is my issue. I am trying to get my car to get in the 23XX pound range, and need to lighten a little more. My power windows barely work anymore, so has anyone replaced their windows in here? I was thinking about just pop riveting lexan on both sides of the car, and putting some sort of sliding window on the drivers side, similer to what is on Ken Gushi's car. This will let me loose the weight of the windows, along with the motors and what not. Has anyone done this, anyone know of anywhere to buy a sliding window, anything? I am going in to this blind, any advice or alternatives would be appreciated.

Street Car? It will scratch up pretty fast. Plan on replacing every 6 months or so

i drive the car once a week and at events, replacing them every year does not worry me, i figured that when I cut the windows, i might as well cut a few extra

then go buy a sheet of lexan ~ $120 and cut some windows out

yeah, but I would still need some way to stay cool in the car, which is why I want the sliding window

You could just not have any windows, put a window net there or something. Just don't drive in the rain.

At most track events they make you leave the window open. Passenger's too if you're carrying an instructor.

Get speedglass (I believe that's what its called) from Summit or somewhere else, it dosent scratch like Lexan..

I think you could get into the range you're looking for without going to Lexan side windows. You would have bigger gains replacing the rear window, and have less of a problem with scratches.
If it's not a daily driver, there are lots of things you can lose.

yes, If you were to replace the rear hatch with a lexan type materal you could drop off 20-30 pounds. You still have alot more that can come off that car for weight reduction The Antirice

more like 60 lbs. that back hatch is heavy as hell.

also, the hood can go out in favor of something else. most oif the interior could go aswell. the bumper supports.

a single exit exhaust. lightweight everything. wheels,, you name it. that means you losing a couple pounds. lol.

yeah, my car is gutted to hell, it has no luxury what so ever, single exhaust, and everything is light weight, my only question is about the windows

at track events, would I be allowed to have the sliding widow, just open? I see alot of track cars that have this

Depends on the track your asking about. NHRA wants the window closed before you stage.

The road racing club I belong to and instruct for wants the windows all the way up or all the way down when you are on track. If you only have a 1/2 window my club would probably have you run it closed. This is how we run driving schools, BTW. Actual road races are run with windows down, if they are still present, and a window net for a closed car and arm restraints for open cars. I have a vintage racing friend that runs a closed car with arm restaints as window nets were not used in 1966 so he is safer, but still vintage appearing.

If you want the greatest weight savings use Lexan for the hatch window and windshield first. Just don't use wipers and keep 3M plastic polish on hand.
