why bother spending 700 bucks when you can just screw in a flat peice which is cut to the righit dimentions for a fraction of the price? use a flat sheet of paper over the stock glass and then cut it out in the lexan with a rotozip or any other type of saw you happen to have handy. just weld in some reinforcement bars so the lexan does not wobble/flex too much and your set. i have seen this done before and it turns out fine with just bending it and screwing in to place with some machine screws

He is right. I used to have a Probe GT..(dont flame me, first car) i put a lexan back glass in there for reasons of a stereo, and about a month later it was all scratched up and looked like crap. Someone told me you could get it shaved and resurfaced but it was pretty expensive.
You spend $700 so you don't have to constantly scratched lexan. Percy's is scratch resistant should last for years, assuming you don't follow dump trucks filled with pebbles.
I've never encountered a group of '"enthusiast" car owners as cheap as RX7 owners, so I'm betting a number of people are wondering how many times you can get buy replacement lexan when it gets scratched up before you end up at $700.
The other reason to spend $700 is that they are pre-bent so it you don't have screws/rivets poking out everywhere and no stress fractures to develop around the mounting screws/rivets.
Replacing the door windows would save maybe 4 pounds grand total and even Percy's doesn't recommend their plastic door windows for a daily driver.

Where are you getting your prices??
Check these links to find out how much a sheet of Mar Resistant MR-10 Lexan costs:
http://www.k-mac-plastics.net/polyca...-lexan-mr5.htm
http://www.polymerplastics.com/trans...exanmr10.shtml
Windshields need .375" unless you are going to run a stabilizer bar down the middle. $60/sq. foot for 3/8" MR-10 though I did find a place selling a 3 x 6 x .375" sheet for $180+ shipping.
In addition, you'll need pre-formed lexan for the rear hatch. It is curved too much for anything but really thin lexan which will flop/deform at speed. You may be able to get by with a flat piece for the windshield, but it will ineveitably develop stress cracks if you cold form it by attaching with rivets/screws.
Do it right the first time.

Well , let me preface the rest of my statements with the following perspective: First, I agree that Lexan shouldn't be used on the street for durability reasons. Second, I'm talking from an autocross point of view where the speeds are lower, so wind deflection and related stresses are not a problem.
I'm only going to run 1/8" (.125") thick material, so it will take a bend much easier, and it also cuts down on cost. I've been in autocross cars at 70+ mph and never noticed the front windshield deflecting.
In an autocross, I don't care if the back window deforms, it's just there to keep the rain out.
I'm sure in road racing, where the speeds get over 100mph, that thicker stuff would be required.
As for the prices, just call around to local plastic distributors and get some quotes. I could make a front windshield for as little as $29.00 using Sheffield polycarbonate. The material for a smoked (tinted) back window is only about $60.
Good luck

what about just taking the side windows out all together. If you really want to be unique take of the hatch with it. That would satisfy your "weight" savings. Get yourself a waterproof car cover and you are set.
RX-Ben is right. As far as maintenance is concerned, 3M sells a product for boat windshields which are lexan. It's easy to use and you can buy it at any boat supply store. I did my boat windshield and it took about 2 hours to clean and buff out any scratches. I also did the headlight covers on the wifes car and they look brand new.

Just a note to anyone who might be thinking of putting lexan windows in a street car. I beleive that in most places it is illegal to use lexan windows. Check the laws in your area. Besides, lexan is for race cars.
