subs in a vert? aside from the car having enough extra weight for that poor little engine, your sound will be compromised greatly! good luck, though. just dont expect any decent spl numbers.

i was mainly pointing out that the cabin won't hold the pressure. pics, no. i dont have a vert or a system, nor look for either. ideas: calm down, i'm not attacking you like a gorilla out the dallas zoo. 2 12" JL W3s in a custom box. there's my idea. or going to the interior/exterior/audio section.
https://www.rx7club.com/interior-exterior-audio-26/
see, i'm full of ideas.

ok, ummm what does mmk mean?

str8ballin, not everyone knows or realizes the limitations on the vert right away, casio was just trying to inform you. no need to tell people to "stop wasting bandwidth on this woman banter"... this is a forum, where things are open to discussion.

hey man, same situation all the time. if its a "re-post," people say search. i just happened to throw that in there, not as an attack. yikes. forum people "remind" others of the same stuff all the time. its nothin new.
and its not wasting bandwidth any more than not searching or posting the same thread in two places. i'm glad you posted there as well. thats where it should be.
want an apology? *i'm sorry for disturbing the smooth flow of your thread.* now, everyone with pics, please post them.
its all good. i hate the internet for its lack of a personality. i hate throwin in cheesy smilie faces, but it kinda helps, too.

4 5" speakers in the rear cover so I can hear the high notes at 100mph with the top down.

I cant imagine how that's structurally stable. If you built boxes behind those speakers you'd end up tearing up the spare tire cover the speakers are mounted on.

STR8BALLIN - R,

I think the best setup is subs & amps under the convertible's center spare tire cover. I've seen an amp rack in the trunk before, but then you don't have a usable trunk.

Most people relocate their spare tire into the rear spare tire compartment in the trunk as well.

It is fine. There are no boxes built behind them unfortunately but there is room to make them and not tear anything up. If you look just at the top of the speakers, you can see a piece of wood covered by cloth that makes for a nice solid and flush mount for the speakers and increases the rigidity of the cover. The backside of the cloth covered wood (in the front) is angled to match the receding angle at the top. There is also a piece of ply on the backside. My wind deflector no longer folds all the down, but I never put it down anyways. Looks, sounds and works great btw. My sub, amps and changer are loctaed under the tray as in the pics above. I carry no spare, just a can of 'tire goo' and hope.

thats what im lookin for! thanks man. I have thought about mounting 2 6x9's like you have the 4 5's. I was told it wouldnt be structurally stable enough though.
I would love to see more pics and especially if you have any of the box you made for the sub. directions etc.

does the single 10 hit hard enough?
where do the wires for the 5's go. when you have it up i cant see em'
thanks

also

what do u have up front, i was also told that with the 6x9's back there that i would have horrible staging
you must have some big speakers up front to compensate for all those in the back!

You're assuming that anyone who wants subs must be after nothing but extreme volume. Maybe that's what the kids want, but some of us slightly more sophisticated tastes. Any music will sound much better if the bass and sub-bass frequencies are properly reproduced. It's not about volume, it's about sound quality. As for engine power, I've got that covered.

my vert was a 91 and had every option the owner could of checked, so it has subs behind the seats from the factory...i think they are 8's...nothing too powerful but work well. want me to take a pic of the factory stuff?

I think 6x9's or just 6" will be to big for that location. The 5 inch fit in there perfectly with the additional wood support. The sub box is a f-glass bottom moulded to wood on the upper sides and a wood top. Pics are not going to happen as it would be a major bisnitch to undo everything to photograph. It wasn'ty very hard to construct, just time consuming. At least thats what I was told by the install shop
The 10 is perfect and hits hard. The car thumps and will set off alarms if I turn it up, but that's not my style to go thumping around. I have heard another vert with 2 10's and it was not much of an improvement over one 10" if you ask me. Have also heard one with a single 12". It hit harder and could get much louder but did not have the range of a 10" so I think the overall sound quality was not as good. Didn't help the 12" and the amps were of 'questionable' quality also. I think a single 10" is plenty for the small space of the vert and is plenty loud with the top down covering it up and the wind in your ears. I also have 6" and with tweeter and another 5" in each door to balance out the rear.
pm v8rx7 for pics of his system. Very nice and just like mine but with two 10". He also has two 5" iwhere I have four of them. His setup allows for the spare tire to remain under the cover also! Probably the nicest vert system I have seen out there...next to mine of course He has a wiring schematic for it online somewhere.
btw, the 4-5" in the back are all wired to a couple of clips so I can remove the cover easily if needed.

Sound in the vert can actually be pretty good. With the top up, and the fact that the top section is very solid it can hold pressure pretty well. Granted it's probably not going to be as good as a coupe, but it's definatly not as bad as some other verts.

thanks rxheaven

so youve got all the wires for the 4 5's wired into a wiring harness so you just unclip and lift? very cool!
i am going for a new head unit first off and wiring directly to my rockford fosgate dash and door speakers and then I will either put 6.5,s in the door ( rockfords are 5.25) if i am not happy with the rockfords.
I am a little uneasy about cutting into my door panel but we will see.
Next I plan to make a sub box ( where I can get instructions on actual build beats me- i just dont know how to calculate the proper volume inside the box and ****) for 1 10" or possinbly a 12 depending on what fits and hopw much kwon ive got. and i will need an amp....

just a quick question....do you recommend any charachteristics of head units on the market these days that i should want mine to come with keeping in mind that i plan to run subs in the near future?
thks

more pics guys, lets see em!

There is tonnes of sub box building info on the web. You just need to look for it. Google would be a good place to start. There are also lots of books on it, and magazines have articles about subs regularly. Internal volume of a simple rectangular box is just height x depth x length, but sub box design is far more complicated than that. Unless you're prepared to spend some time learning about it, you may be better off buying a pre-made boxed sub or paying a stereo shop to do one for you.

Look for a head unit with separate subwoofers pre-outs. It'll have three pairs of RCA sockets; front, rear and sub.

box building

"Unless you're prepared to spend some time learning about it, you may be better off buying a pre-made boxed sub or paying a stereo shop to do one for you."

This is why I am looking for directions on the board. I dont want to spend the cash on a shop building one custom ( way too much $$) and I figure that with all the custom boxes and subs in that location someone must have the dimensions and critical aspects of building a box for this particular application allready. I am sure of it. Just takes time
