Learning a Rotary

Hey, im thinking about getting a 1987 Turbo II rx7 but i hear that these engines are very very expensive to get work done and hard to fine people to do it so i was thinking about just learning to do it myself. I dont really know much about engines in general but im a very fast learner so do yall think that this would be a fairly impossible task to learn how to do and just look for another car or that it might be able to be done? Also anyone know really how much these turbo II break down becuase i hear the 3rd gen break down like crazy these arent the same are they?

Sure, you could learn how to work on it yourself. I would suggest you get this...

There are some rotary shops around but they are few and far between.

Well the car has like around 150,000 but it has a new j-spec engine in it that has less then 50 miles up on it since it was put in. The car was bought be a junkyard with a bad engine and that is what they replaced it with.

J-spec? (raab voice) nice
First things I would do...

NGK platinum spark plugs for 86-91 $44
NGK plug wires for 86-91 $45
Vacuum hose upgrade kit for 86-91 (blue) $98
Koyo radiator for 86-88 $325

All of that can be found on rx7store.net

NGK plugs and wires- your plugs may need to be replaced and they give better spark
vacuum hoses- because if you have a leak in your vacuum hoses your car will run like crap
koyo radiator- stock radiator sucks, koyo cools better prolonging engine life
