Learned a lesson today...

I searched around the forum looking for any write-up's or tips on how to remove the mirror out of a Series 4 turbo side mirror. The only thread I ran into was the removal of the mirror out of a S5 sidemirror. Anyways I was working on mine and I got three screws out without a problem but I knew one more was in but where...? 30 Minutes later I got frustrated and broke the glass . Now that it was broke all I could say is "dammit" oh I guess I'll just find that last screw. In the end I found the screw mounted underneath the motor. I guess that's why no one had any tips or write-up's. Sorry about the long *** message but I hope this helps anyone in the future to prevent what I did. Here's some pics.

Here's the side mirror without the glass:

Taking off the screw in the middle (which would be under the glass if not broken) reveals the power motor:

Removing the 4 screw holding down the motor and it cover down to it's base reveals the motor bracket. The last screw that I was looking for in the top middle (hence why it was impossible for me to get that mirror out)

Sorry about the crappy pictures but if anyone knows a trick to removing the mirror without breaking it please be free to post the advice. -Keith

The S5 parts manual shows the mirrors as a units with no internal parts breakdown. My guess is that the motor is installed in the plastic enclosure, the frame for the glass--without the glass--is attached to the motor and then the glass is installed in the glass frame, probably glued in. You probably have to break the glass and have a new mirror cut at a glass company, or you replace the whole shebang.

They are S4 turbo mirrors and I was trying to take out the whole thing so that I could have the housings painted without having to mask off the mirror parts.

I have a set of S5 mirrors and disassembled them without a problems because I could accessed the 4 screws holding the motor down easily, but with S4 mirror hardest screw to access is underneath the motor. Sorry if I didn't make my statements clear.
