they do make better torque converters and better tranny valve bodies, and electronic shift controllers for the rex.... you can even get a full drag auto tranny for your rex. But it will cost you so damn much you might as well swap in a 5er like I did as well. places like level ten can hook up a nice AT for you if you really want it.

A friend of mine loosened the torque converter somehow so it would stall at 3k rpm. And added a 4.30 rear gear. His '88 auto vert (mostly stock) whipped my '89 auto coupe. By adding a high stall torque converter and swapping the 3.90 with a 4.30 rear gear would be your best solution for an automatic. Also the '89-'91's had electronic auto's with a kick down switch. Which I thought it was better than the previous mechanical auto's. However I replaced my auto with a TII 5 speed and gained 3 full seconds on my 1/4 mile. Can't beat a 5 speed swap. Which by the way if you ever feel so inclined to do and don't want to do yourself. Just drive it down to Salt Lake and I'll have it done in 2 days.

3 full seconds, and all u added was a 5 speed? What was ur 1/4 mile time b4? I don't live too far from Salt Lake, but the shortest i've heard this swap being done is in about 2 weeks and up. Am i wrong?
