Largest width tire on 16" GTU wheels?

I have a set of 16" GTU/TII s5 wheels i need to put new rubber. I think i plan on running 225/50's and i know it will clear the rear suspension no problem but i want to make sure it clears the front suspension. Or can i step up to a 245 sized tire?

Running 245/45/16 isn't a problem on the rear for me, just the front is..had to take out some plastic crap around the wheel well for the tires to clear..

I'm running 225/45/17s and they're fine... I've seen people run 235s but I don't know what they had to do to get them to fit.

there is a wheel and tire section that would probably be much more help.

not without a small spacer. Ask me how I know.

Honestly, I was tracking the car on 225 Bridgestones, and felt the tire roll over onto it's sidewall a lot. Might not be such a problem in the rear, but I would honestly go with 205/55/16 in the front and possibly 225/50/16 in the rear, as long as you can set up the camber properly. I felt that while the 225 has more lateral grip than the 205's, it's sluggish in transitions and I would rather use 205's all around, unless I was running big power that justifies a 205/225 setup.

Just my thoughts on this after running 225 all around.

It depends on the individual tire. Different brands and models are not the same, even on the same sized tire.

I am running 225/50/16 Summitomo HTR+ on S5 Turbo wheels. The front required a spacer -5mm- to clear the front strut and longer studs to accommodate the spacer.

The fronts now rub slightly on the fenders. I intend to roll my front fenders, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

I will do 215/50/16's next time. Straighter sidewall, better response, no spacer, no rub, slight speedo error of 1.7%.

I currently run Toyo 215/55-16 front and Toyo T1S 235/50-16 on the rear. As soon as the weather warms up new tires will be going on BFG G Force 215/55-16 front and Continental 235/50-16 rear. I've run 245/50-16 on the rear with a matched (diameter) front tires, but don't remember the make, many years ago.

225 is the widest I'd go, personally. 235 may be doable, but a 245 is a fat-*** tire for that wheel.

I personally run 215s in front and 235s in the rear on stock-offset 7"-wide wheels
