Lag difference with FMIC

I am having a hard time deciding on if I want/need a FMIC for my car or not.. Just for a little background information, I will be running a streetport, T04B Hybrid S5 turbo, planning on running 10-12 PSI, and making ~275 RWHP. Now to me...nearly instant throttle response is more important to me than a couple extra HP. I know fully well that a FMIC will cool better then the top mount..but if it is going to make lag noticably worse, Id rather try and work with a top mount, whether it be the stocker , ot aftermarket. Cost isnt really that much of an issue..and If I do go front mount, it will most likely be the Greddy kit. So for those of you with front mounts..is the lag noticable worse? Will a TMIC flow enough to cool the hybrid turbo running 10-12 psi?

i ran a hybrid on mine with the v-spec FMIC. Hardly any lag. It wasnt bad at all. And it put down 260RWHP at 8psi, stock computer.

You will be very pleased with the GReddy V-Spec FMIC Kit, should you go with It. I've heard many times over - recently from IAN- that there Is no lag that you will experience. I just got the GReddy FMIC Kit and It's yet to be put on. Infact, It's right here In my room staring at me.

If anything my car made power sooner with the FMIC.

I found there to be a little bit more lag, However there were power increases with no tunning! just straight power increase with my FMIC,
Silverrotor, dOES it burn your eyes when it stares at you glimingly saying... "you know you want to install me... you know you want to prove to yourself that those 820USD were well spent... you know you want to"? do these bother you when you sleep at night?

The price doesn't bother me...what concerns me Is It's so damn shiny. Just the thought of bent up fins makes me nervous. I will be setting up my front grill In the same fashion as 20B-3Rotor's. I'll be going to his shop for some more details.

Here a pic of his 89 20B. What do you think of his Bumper/Grill setup? Does It bang?

Not to detract from this thread but here Is a shot of his Engine Bay.

Yup. 2 left after I scooped one up. You'd better go and get her, I got her, she's mine - soon. It dropped $80 from the when I started to look for one. My timing was perfect.

I have heard that greddy kit is undersized to make real power it's the 2 row, right?

Yo if cost is not a problem them why not go with a V mount system. This will give you the shortest path for piping and still have maximum cooling effeciency.

I really dont see how a V- mount setup would work well on a FC..with the harsh angle of the radiator..but if someone has some pics, suggestions, Id more than gladly entertain that idea.

Ive been looking alot over an H-mount setup, such as BlueTII ( I think thats his Screen-name..?) is doing, but not sure where the intercooler would get its air from.. Id probably be looking at a custom hood for that, and I dont think I want to get into that.

So if everyone's saying that I wont get too much lag with the FMIC..Ill probably just go with that. Thanks

There are people making alot of power even with the stock TMIC..so Id think that even a decently sized FMIC would be a vast improvement. I'm not sure what you mean by "real power", but I would think that it would be good for whatever 90% of the people out there are making, although I am by far no expert..

Having a fmic will not increase or decrease turbo lag. You are talking about boost reponse, not lag....

V-Mount works very wellbecause It allows the piping path to be really short. However the radiator will have to be moved to fit it in properly even in the picture with 20b-3rotors car his radiator has be moved to accomodate the V-mount.

By good power I think he means excess of 350hp!
I personally have my own custom FMIC which is comparible to the greddy two row IC and it made a huge differnce in untuned power! I am now custom making another IC which will be comparible to the 3 row... probably a little less but in that ball park! Just because My goal in the end is 500hp!.

So if you are debating whether or not it is worth the money. IMHO i would have to say that it is inded a good way to go even with the stock turbo. You will notice gains with the stock turbo and upgraded (good) FMIC! Good Luck

This is the sticky at the top of the page with the items for sale.
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=231935

There is still a 3 row Greddy kit for $1199 but I heard that the 3 row was a bitch to install. I think Higgi or someone else went with that and ended up doing alot of custom work when they bought the kit for ease of installation.

Ouch. Ya that sucks. If you end up having to do alot of custom work you might as well go spearco or somthing, to me the biggest plus side of the greddy is the "bolt in" factor.
