L.s.d.

I know this may be a noob question, but do all '87 GXL's come from factory with LSD's ? I did a trans. fluid change today and wanted to change the diff. fluid too but there's a metal tag on the fill bolt saying it's an LSD diff. I was almost certain i did not have LSD. So just wondering if i got lucky and bought a car with LSD.

Yes I believe so.
You couldn't tell you had an LSD?

all S4 GTU and GXL have LSD's. Although to drop costs on the cars, mazda dropped them for S-5's

only the 88 GTU has LSD according to the faq i think? Otherwise only GXL have them from 86-88, while GTU only in 88.

Wow to think that the GTU would have it stock rather than the GXL. What's the difference between GXL and GTU anyway? Oh by the way Mandrake, I really haven't got the oppurrtunity to find out if I had LSD. HaHa i really drive like a grandma.

You could be right. I havent seen anything about it in a while. Out of memory I thought it was all S4's. but if that is what the FAQ says, it's most likely right.

The GXL is a better model than the GTU. They cost more hehe. The GTU just had some aero shizzle and body colored stuff with the limited slip. The GXL had the adjustable suspension, power ****, the cool door panels and a limited slip.

So the GTU offers no better performance traits than the GXL ? As for the adjustable suspension, how could you tell of it still works in my car ? is there a way to diagnose?

Nope GTU is a GXL with out the suspension and cool door panels. *i think there called map pocket doors* *the ones with the light at the very bottom rear of the door* the GTUs is where its at.

The GTU is a lot lighter, I'd call that a performance benefit...

Oh I see, what did they do to lighten up the GTU, Couldn't be that much difference is there? As for being lighter, to match the GXL to the GTU in terms of weight, what would I need to do. But anyway, I guess that doesn't matter because I plan on dynamatting my car. Roadnoise really gets to me.

I thought there was a thread about changing the internals of the Rearend, with a Miata's rear end gears? Does anyone else remember that?

ONLY two or three hundred more. Ha! That is a lot of weight. A lot.

Read the archives and FAQ. All the information is in there. You just have to search and read. I suggest reading everything in the archives. Amazing amount of information in there.

I have an 88 GXL, and the guy who owned it before me had the suspension redone by Maxda a couple of years before I bought it, and I can tell the difference between the 2 modes. When its in sport mode, the car feels a lot flatter and sportier through the corners, and if definatly stiffer over bumps that the normal mode. I like the feel of the sport mode better, so thats usually what I leave it in while driving. I believe that it also has sensors so when you really push the car in sport mode, it stiffens even more when you are really pushing the car. Go race around a few clover leaf on ramps in the different setups, and you should be able to tell the difference.

I love my cool door panels. If the cool little cubby spaces are what you mean by cool door panels. I didn't know that the GXL came with LSD. I thought the 86s were weird from s4 and s5s (i.e no leather seats, 2 peice of **** shifter, etc)

the gtu is alot lighter than a gxl, because the gtu basicly is a striped down model with no power options, no power mirrors no power windows no sun roofs, ect.... i think it came with PS tho.. and it had a lsd still.... it does have the 4 pot brakes and turbo suspension.
