Are kyb agx shocks worth the extra money over regular shocks ?

i am considering getting some kyb agx shocks for mycar , how much of a difference are they from the gr2's .

i was going to get some lowering springs that give a 1.5" drop to go with the shocks.

With that much drop, I'd strongly suggest the KYB's or another stiffer damper like Koni sports - near stock GR2s won't be stiff enough, and taking that much stroke out will put any stock-type stroke in danger of bottoming out and damaging the shock. Stiffer settings (presumably the lowering springs will be significantly stiffer than stock too), and struts better able to match those rates are important for control and to avoid strut damage.

Tokico are a much higher quality shock, they have always been up there at the top. Go with the Illumina if you are planning on tracking the car. If not some blues should be fine if you get some good spings(i.e. tanabe, ground control, ebich) I hear the teins for our cars are kinda soft. I have the tanabe gf210 and love them. Got them for 200 with free shipping from thmotorsports.com, Only took 5 days to get to me.

the tanabe gf210s are what i was going to get , they are actually a 1.5" drop

now its either kyb agx or tokico , i have to find the cheapest place for the tokicos it looks like its 450-500 for all 4 shocks

yes you do need to break in the shocks, i would suggest staying on soft for about 2weeks-1month depending on how much you drive.

Don't waste your money on struts and springs, spend the extra money and get coilovers.

+1 I made that mistake. By the time your done piecing together springs, struts, new strut tops (you will need them) its better to just get coilovers. Add it all up then look at what's springs/struts give you and what coilovers provide you with. Coilovers are the better buy.

And coilovers are just much better all around, I've driven both kyb AGX and a car with megan coilovers. While megans do suck, they were still way better than the AGX. Megans are cheap as ****, you can find a used set for cheaper than a stupid strut and spring set up.

They have a point (although one sided), buy the time you get your adjustable shocks and springs +shipping your you'll have spent ~$700-~$800 (if you go adjustable) and you can get a decent set of coilovers for ~$1000, excluding Ksport/D2, not saying there Bad (I’ve never felt them) but most people will bash them before they try them.

But the point is moot if you’re not going to track the car, just get some non adjustable Tokico blues and you'll enjoy the ride.

go to THMOTORSPORTS.COM you can get all 4 tokico blues (Tokico hp) for $330 and they have free shipping. (love that place)

If ur getting full body coilevers NEAR the price of gf210s and agx's they are cheap *** coilovers!

im running the agx's and i love them, and one of my friends whos real big in the dsm world uses them on his awd eclipse running low 10's and another friend with a Ws6 trans am racing road course and both use the AGX's.

coilovers ARE nice for racing buuut racing only, they feel like **** on the road, like a chopped spring honda.

agx's allow for a tleast a little daily comfort. but they can be adjusted to stiff as hell

AGX $200 heres the link : NEW

and gf210s: $179 NEW

THE CHEAPEST COILOVER: $626 USED

agx's +gf210 or what ever spring is close comparison to full body coilovers

u be the judge

I have agx's and the arent what i expected. They suck for anything other than street driving. I wish I saved up and bought a set of decent coilovers. Just my two cents

Break in shocks? Never heard of this and I have been working with all types and brands. Bilstein, FOX, Monroe, Tokico, KYB, KING. Nobody breaks in shocks.

save up for some stance entry level coilovers. they are great if you want a stiffer ride. I think ~1200 and you can adjust dampning at least. the spring rates is what you can not change so get some confortable rates and you should be good. an extra ~400 new isn't that much for the quality you get. you can always try to find used sets though too. if you just daily the car with the occasional pull (why do you have an rx7 again?lol) then go with the tokicos I guess. I would do stance either way myself. GL

i've had the same set of 4 AGX on every DD rx-7 i,ve had for the last 5 years. they started on my n/a, then moved to my turbo, then i moved them to my vert, and now they're on my 10TH AE. They still work great, i usually keep them on stiffest, and let my tires provide road comfort. i've even gone airborne a few times( only about 2-3 feet off the ground in the vert) and they haven't blown yet. i also have a habbit of plowing over speed bumps at nearly double the rated limit. shocks keep on takin a pounding. they're used with stock turbo/GXL springs.

They call me the stresstester.

LOL you do realize that the link you put up for the AGX's on ebay are only for the FRONTS... for a full set of AGX's your looking at close to 500$ (with shipping) and like I stated before $500 (for the AGX) and $200 (for the springs) is $700 which is over the $626 you put for cheap used coilovers, but if he was going to track the car paying the extra 300 for a nice $1000 coilover is worth it, IF HE TRACKS THE CAR.

cut spring hondas bounce like **** and handle nothing like coilovers. They are just too intimidating /aggressive for people who are more into comfort. Coilovers are no different than piecing together a strut/spring combo in the aspect that they get negative remarks on them., all the homework of spring rates/valving is done for you in one nice package with the ability to adjust ride height and camber up front. much easier to install too since you dont need a spring compressor. Lifting a car with coilovers is pretty nice since the suspension doesnt uncompress like shock/springs.

Some guys perfer a much softer setup then what typical coilover kits provide, and then theres the guys who love coilovers. Its really a 2 sided debate. Just try them out on someones car and see if you like them.
