Subject line pretty much says it all. My FC3 needs new dampers and I like plenty of control. This car is 85% autocross and 15% street so keep that in mind. The KYBs are only about $120 a set cheaper so the price difference isn't as important as the performance difference.

Also are there any decent off the shelf autocross springs? Any proven combinations of springs and dampers?

AGX adjustables with eibach pro springs $$

 

ditto agx's with eibachs are the way to go....best bang for the buck....ive had em on my car for 2 1/2 years and have had no problems....

 

RB springs are really nice as far all around goes.

KYB's are the way to go.

I've got the K2RD coilover kit which uses AGX adjustables and eibach (i think) standard racing springs. The whole kit is a bit over $1200 if you get the rear camber link in the deal. Be aware that this will bump you out of stock class in autox! The ride is also tooth and kidney jarringly stiff when you turn it up,(or even on the lower settings really) but the handling difference is quite pronounced.

So far the KYB AGXs and Eiback Pro Kit springs look to be about the best that fits within the budget. If I have to I'll buy them new, but if I can spend less here I can spend more on tires and such.

Stock class this car is not. No AC, heater, radio, carpet, headliner, etc. About the only things left in the interior are the shell of the dash with the stock instrument cluster, two seats and a steering wheel. The doors are intact at the moment, but only because I haven't gotten to them yet. I have to see if I still have some of the nice aluminum mixer board handles around for something to grab when closing the doors. Even the sound deadening on the floor will go. If it's like the '75 Celica I had there is about 40 lbs of sound deadening material on the floor throughout the car. I could loose 30 lbs myself if I really worked at it, but the car is easier.

The theme of the car is fast and cheap above all else. If it works out well the car will most likely end up as a Grass Roots Motorsports 2005 challenge car. As such if anyone has some good used AGXs, camber plates, or stiff springs drop me a line. I'm also looking for some cheap 7" wide wheels. I have 15x6" baloney cutters in pretty good shape with fair tires for trade.

since the car is 85% auto-cross, you may be happier with linear-rate springs. the Eibach Pro are progressive rate, while the Racing Beat are linear.

Sound deadening tar will net you between 20-25 lbs... at least that's what I got out of my car.
If you look around the net you can find the AGX for less than $400 a set.
I've thought about doing the GRM Challenge with my project too.

i agree, with that much track time linear springs would be the way to go. my buddy has been tracking his FC with eibach pro's, the more he does it the more he says he wants linear springs.

Liniars are supposed to be more 'predictable'

 

Ive heard that the Koni Yellows are a much better track shock then the AGX. You really dont hear about them a lot because most people dont want to modify the front shock housing to put the Koni insert into. Also most FC owners, including myself, look for the most economincal solution.

The Konis are used in a lot of performace cars including the FD and there have been nothing but good things said about them. I dont know if they are worth the extra $120. I plan on getting them this summer along with the K2RD coilovers. I have heard great things about this setup.

 

Ok, I didn't know the Eibachs were progressive. Certainly not what I'm after with this car. I'll probably end up with Koni's or AGX adjustables. That's still up in the air. What I would like input on now is spring rates for the front and rear. I have sleeves and perches I can use on the front struts so I can use real race springs. The only race springs I have at the moment are 7" free length 375lb/in. maybe I can use them on the back with a little work. I can make a spacer sleeve if needed.

I have the KYB AGX shocks wrapped with Suspension Techniques Linear rate springs.

You will want a camber adjustment rod since it drops your stance about 1" also... Course my didn't drop since the old springs were shot...

It feels like it is on rails, but it gets a little rough on the kidneys when dialed up and on bumpy roads

 

Koni sports! I simply love those struts. I just put RB springs around them . I havent had a chance to push the car yet but I will be sure to get back to you on that.

The install wasn't that hard. I would do it again!
