Key Light on FCS5

I have a question. I've never had a working light at the ignition switch. Currently I am having to work on my steering wheel surround trim and found a small compartment above the opening where the ignition switch fits. This compartment has a hole where a small light bulb should fit but of course it is not present on my GTU. Just confirming that the key light was not an option on the GTU?

Has anyone tapped in or run a wire for a small light in this area? If so what size bulb does it require and how did you wire it?

The spot for it came on all cars, but I have no light on either my '87 base, or my '87 sport. I'm looking into putting the light in. If I figgure out how to retrofit it, I'll post some info.

Just looked this up on the "What did the FC come with" and the ignition light was standard on the GXL and Turbo. I guess I'll have to check the wiring diagram and find out the wire size and bulb wattage and run my own circuit. You'd have thought something that insignificant would have been standard across the board.

Mark, do you have any specs on the bulb and wiring used to illuminate the ignition lock?

little 3 watt grain of wheat bulb. find it at most auto parts stores.

You may have the socket already there and just no bulb. You can wire it up to the door triggers to come on with the dome lights

Thanks, I looked briefly and didn't see a wire or a socket but shouldn't be too hard to wire it in from scratch if its not there. I'll check closer this weekend and see what the parts stores carry.
