If you're looking to get Carb approved so to pass smog (if that applies in WV), then K&N is your only alternative. HKS has pulled out of the states, so you can't get a replacement CARB sticker.
Either way, I personally like K&N.

Smog doesnt apply in our state. Where your filter will set and your n/a needs the heat also will not be an issue. Our vert has ran like that for years and years. no issues yet. Sydney, all you need is the adapter with a quality K&N filter.

and even if i was somewhere that i had to smog it wouldnt madder cause they wouldnt beable to find it lol if they did id say doesnt that look stock? with a $50 bill lol
I'd keep the stock air box and use a drop in filter.. But if your going cone style no matter what, k&n and apexi are quality filters. The HKS mushroom style filters might be necessary in some cases where space is an issue, but their filtration and longitivity is arguable. The foam element is supposed to be replaced often in them. If you never replace it, it can deteriorate.
Anyway, I would normally recommend the HKS product for looks, but since you have already ordered the adapter then you may as well go with a K&N universal filter. If you want to retain the function of the air pump, then you will also need a "crankcase vent" filter for the air pump tube, which you will find when you remove your stock airbox. The HKS filter assembly has a bung for the air pump hose so that it can use the same filter as the engine inlet.
Yeah, that's a great way to turn a $75 non-moving violation into a 5-year prison sentence. Brilliant idea.
I didn't know HKS US was gone.. dam knockoffs and probably not enough support. I have a few hks products myself.
edit: maybe i dont remember.. just sucks the knockoff companies are doing strong but the originals are suffering.

and 5 years in prison, Missouri must suck worse than anticipated.
As for you Sydney, no one is going to care or **** with you about the cone filter setup, your going for a fun n/a setup. You wont have any issues due to the filter. Get it done clean it up, painted and sell it to fuel the fb tII build. Hell i might buy it as a daily later on.

For a stock NA 13B engine, the best performance value is from a high-flow drop-in filter like the K&N replacement filter. However, it sounds to me like you have already made up your mind based on looks rather than performance. There is nothing wrong with this, but you should not try to fool yourself or others. A pod type filter without custom ducting will suck in hot air from the radiator, reducing engine performance. This is mostly seen below about 30-35mph, so you will probably not notice the performance decrease unless you are drag racing your car. Fortunately, the increased intake air noise will at least make your car sound faster.
