K&N Cold Air Intake Mazda RX7 88 87 86 1.3L FUEL; specific or generic?

I found these through just surfing around

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/K-N-C...spagenameZWD1V

http://www.innerauto.com/store/?N=16...294967017+9194

Did K and N really make this specifically for the fc or is are they just another one of those generic cone filters? I know from previous reads that CAI for the fc is fabricated because no company makes it for our cars but maybe things have changed because those prices are a bit steep to be generic lol

I belive that was made for the FC. I am still running my air pump on my car and had to get a filter for like a go kart. You can see on the k&N one you have poseted there is space for the hose on the back of it.

I don't know how the one in the first link would work. Its shielding is reverse to where you would want it.

The first one is not specific.

The second one is.

The first filter is too small.

yea i found the part list on the k and n site. thanks guys. does anyone have this set up in their car? I have a k and n drop in filter and i'm wondering if it's even worth considering to "upgrade" to a cone filter. car is 86 n/a btw.

Keep the stock airbox and just drop in a kn replacement. I did the "upgrade" and there is almost no difference. There are threads about this already but a cone intake for a na is really useless.

The drop in could cost a bit and I just happen to have one. If you want it just give me a pm and we can work something out.

A cone filter on a n/a can help if you design your new intake system correctly.

The problem with a cone intake is that if you just drop it in without making a cold air box for it, it'll just be sucking in hot engine bay air. There are threads on making a cold air box, but using the factory box is adequate.

^ Thats a given

Everyone has their personal preference on what intake is the best and why. So with that said, I think mine is the best

Brandonn - I have the K&N FIPK (cone, adapter, and bracket). It's a nice kit, but for the money I wouldn't expect less. I kept the plastic intake duct on top of the radiator shroud, but a box to keep the radiant heat out is on the list. The archive has a nice setup, and I read here on the list a recent thread with another one. Don't have any HP numbers though.
