K&N Box Filter better than stock?

Is it worth the money and is there any performance difference? Or should I go with a cone filter and some sort of cold air box and how is the least expensive cone filter to go with? Let me hear your opinions on the subject.
Thanks.
By the way I just installed a HI Flo Bonez and RP catback.

I am curious too.. right now i have a stock air filter which i can easily assume is clogged to hell and back, but the K&N filter costs like 120 canadian but my friend was saying i can get a cone filter for like 150, but with the cone filter, how does it get efficient air flow w/o a hoodlight scoop??

You will definately notice the K&N drop in filter. However, if you have a turbo I would suggest a K&N cone filter and a home made 3in TID. You will really notice it then

Go with a cone, will flow much better and there are many ways to get cooler air to it.

so for an N/A, would it be better to go with the K&N drop in, or put in a cone filter?

It's a budget question. I'm keeping the stock air box to save money for more rear tires..

Do not expect a noticable or measureable power increase from just replacing the air filter element with a drop-in replacement. Companies like K&N will have you believe the stock filter is incredibly restrictive, and built fancy counter-top displays for autoparts shops with little fans and ping-pong ***** to prove it. But that's very misleading, because although their filter is indeed less restrictive than the stock one, the filter actually causes very little restriction compared to the rest of the intake system, particularly the airbox in the case of the FC. There are cost benefits to using reusable air filters, but not performance benefits.
Have a read of this article on modifying intakes. The results of the tests on the stock system are typical of many cars.
For a noticable power increase, you need to ditch the stock box and replace it with a pod complete with heat shield and cold air ducting.

I feel a little stupid asking this question, but as far as intake modding goes this is what i've done. I've replaced the stock intake with a the K&N Cone filter, I'm building a Cold Air Box and getting the Pop-Up Light inlet built into it my headlight, what else can I really do to my intake system, or is that it?

For what they want for the drop-in new you can go a long way toward a cold-air setup.

I had one and didn't notice any real difference. If you were going to keep the stock airbox forever for some reason, then costwise the drop-in would be cheaper in the long run.

If you go cone, it's a good idea to get some kind of heat barrier because those temps in there are high. I like those CF ones that dude is building, they look slick. I've always thought to be completely effective it needs to seal against the hood due to heat rising and all. Temps near my filter dropped around 30 degrees F when I did mine. I expect a little more when I get it sealed all around like I want it.

I'm running an ebay, cheapie cone now but I don't really trust it too much. Before I oiled it I remember light filtering through it pretty easily. Pretty thin foam. I'm gonna get a real K&N asap. I found them for around $35 (3" inlet, tapered cone 6/4", 6"long) online somewhere. If anybody knows a cheap place for K&Ns I'd like to know.
