haha. Don't worry.
There are TWO parts to the water-pump. The WP itself, and the housing it 'fits' into. Both SHARE THE SAME NUTS/BOLTS, so if you remove the 12mm nuts and (1) 12mm 'through-bolt' that has the alternator bracket on it, naturally BOTH the housing and WP will want to come off.
If I were you, since the housing is already loose and wanting to come off too, I'd disconnect the radiator hoses (from it), the small wire going to right by the radiator cap, the green electrical plug in the back and the little hose (in the back) and if turbo, the other little hose, and PULL THE HOUSING OFF TOO.
I suggest doing this, one, so you can get a better understanding of how it works and two, so you can inspect the gasket on the backside of the waterpump housing, that mates to the 'front-cover' of your engine. You might need to replace this gasket as well (now that it's seperated).
Good luck brother,
oh, and don't be intimidated by your car... You own IT, not the other way around.

the water pump housing can be knocked loose by removing the water pump. you'll have to get a new gasket for the housing, and seal it with some RTV.
take it off by simply unbolting the air pump and alternator from it. you may have to remove the OMP lines if you cant get it around them.

Yeah when it comes to the pump/housing, I second that RTV is your friend, works awesome. I never did try just using the gasket alone, I always used RTV, torqued to spec, and NEVER had a leak in the coolant system at those points.
Just a very thin line around the edges is all you need, not a huge amount.
