Hrm, I think its pretty cool. The motor is probably my least favorite part of my car, for a fast street car that would be pretty nice, MTI 7.0L stroker motor and some nitrous makes C5's run low 10's.......

Yep... just plain yuck.

Ever notice that many people that think the V8 in a FC is a great idea, go ahead and do it either:

1. Never finish the conversion completely.

2. Sell the car within a couple of months of starting or finishing the car.

I see very very few people that have converted to a push rod motor ever finish or when finished, keep the car. (and Gnx7 I know you still have yours, but your more an exception to the norm I think).

Yet people that do the 20B conversion or the 13BT conversions seem to keep the car forever...

wonder why???

Dont flame me for this one and Im more of a rotor head than most here but I kinda think that one looks good. Looks like the guy did his homework and it turned out nicely. It doesnt look like it was just slapped in there. Dont get me wrong I think its stupid to replace any rotary with a piston engine but if your going to do it ya might as well do it the way that guy did. I'd still smoke that car though.

i think that would be a fun project to do to an rx7 at some point in my life when i'm rich and have the money and extra cars to do it too......just something to do. but as of right now, the idea of replacing the heart of the rx-7 is wrong.....

*contemplates putting a 20B into his mom's 626, then realizes that the money would be better spent on putting it into his FC*

I like the idea of the rotary, I like its simplicity the nice smooth way it revs ect ect. But plain and simple it has its flaws. When you have the RX7, that one time you're gonna let off after a nice hard pull and the car is going to refuse to idle is always in the back of your mind. The 3 years I had my Talon (all of those running over 17psi) I never really worried about the motor at all. Its nice. I like the styling, handling, and pretty much every other part of the FC enough to deal with the issues I am sure I will have with the motor. I am 100% going to make my car fast on the 13BT, if I reach a point I am tired of the motor and not the car, I may contemplate something like this.

For those of you who have had RX7's exclusivley you should give torque a chance sometime, you'd be suprised how fun it is.

Hey at least he used an LS1. If you just have to have an eight banger, at least get the good one. My buds 400 small block out of an old beater-mobil just don't get it done.

Like 1FastT2 said, its a well put together conversion.
Nothing wrong with it, if that's what you want.

With iron heads and intake you're looking at a 600lb motor vs the 200lb rotary, but the aluminum heads come stock on the LS1 as does the aluminum intake. So, in all reality the addition of that motor is more or less the equivalent of a passenger. Now, take the 350lb/ft of torque that V8 makes and you have a rotary killer.

2900lb cars? If I did a V8 conversion with me in the car I wouldn't be that heavy.

Before you flame me.... I'm about to finish my first rotary rebuild this weekend. (I love the wankel)

Thank you, I have been searching for spec but couldn't find exact weight, though I will keep looking. Even if the motor weighed 400lbs extra, there is easily more power than a 13BT could ever muster to be had in a LS1. Add to that the fact the LS1 will run for 2 times as long....

If I did a conversion like that I would want the car to keep AC/PS ect, but even in a 3000lbs car...when you can put over 600 - 700whp down on the giggle juice and have plenty of torque out of a stroker to drive everyday.......The real problem would be, getting more tire under the rear of the car, 265's wouldn't cut it.

Rotary killer? Try Mk4 killer :P

It doesn’t bother me when people bash the hybrid RX-7 concept based on their love for the Rotary engine …… I can respect that.

But the ignorance that some people use to justify their bashing never stops amazing me.

Facts:

The LS1 is an all aluminum V8

My L98 Chevy V8 converted RX-7 (Iron block & aluminum heads) only added about 125 lbs to my convertible RX-7 (I had it weighed after the conversion)

The weight of a LS1 is 160 lbs less than my L98, meaning that that a LS1 swap doesn’t add any weight to an RX-7

Stock LS1 HP is around twice that of the stock rotary

Stock LS1 Torque is almost 3 times that of the stock rotary.

I’m not trying to convince anyone to put in a V8 in their RX-7, it takes a lot of time and money, but have any of you out there that are bashing V8 RX7’s ever ridding in one that was built right?

with my rotary convertible, I use to get beat up by stock civics, now with my V8 hybrid RX-7 vert I give Porsches and Corvettes a run for the money .
