Arrow Just got a new Turbo II! Why is my rear end knocking every shift?`

Every time I shift out of first the rear end makes a loud THUD noise like its loose and when i boost up and shift it does it aswell. What is the cheapest and easiest way to fix this problem. I just bought the car and he said it didnt do it when he got it but during the 3000 miles he drove it, it started to make that noise and u can feel it , if u shift hard u feel it MAJORLY.. vROOOOMMMM then engage gear at over 3000-8000 RPM and u get a loud hard THUD in the rearend.

Thanks ahead for any help. I need to fix this very fast so any information will be HIGHLY appreciated

Check your front diff mount. It bolts on the front of the rear diff by the pinion/drive shaft flange. If it's broken the sound if from your diff smacking the bottom of your car.

probably front diff mount.

I've broken many of them. Now I am using a pinion snubber to limit the diff travel.

Easiest way to replace is by dropping the whole rear subframe. It sounds harder but it's really MUCH easier than trying to replace it while the subframe is still on the car.

It's nearly impossible to get a nice and tight bolt on the mount with it still in the car.

Just unbolt the driveshaft and unbolt the calipers and push them aside and then remove the bolts holding the diff and subframe up(along with lateral link bar)

yeah... I drove a friend's TII that had a broken diff mount... it's not a pleasant sound at all. that's probably what your problem is.

both corksport and mazdatrix sell them (corksport only sells the stiffer competition version):

http://mazdatrix.com/G8DiffMnt.HTM
http://corksport.com/store/category/...rivetrain.html

if you only have $300 and would deffinitly look under the car and find out which one it is. The differential is located where the axles from the rear wheels meet the driveshaft from the transmission. The differential mounts are the 3 places where this is bolted to the body. there are 2 in the back, and one mount in the front.

That's the sublink(as the FSM calls it) or the camber rod. The lateral links control toe in the rear. Just a fyi.

Yep..Front diff mount has taken a Dump,or the Diff is not Bolted in.
I had a "yokel" change my diff out.he forgot to tighten it..Bang,Bang,every shift.
the Front Diff can be gotten to without dropping the subframe..you can undo a bolt on One side(driver's) and take a bar and pry the subframe down enough to get at the Bolts..BUT,it is Easier when you actually do drop the frame.
good Luck..the Car needs attention.a Car that was bought for a bargain, can be Priceless,IF you just give it some TLC.
