Just got my TII swap finished! YEE HAA

I just got my TII motor running today and what a blast. I put a TII in my n/a '90 GXL. It went together pretty good. I bought it on Ebay from Total JDM out of Toronto.

I had to buy a few things to get the swap done like a boost sensor, a Corksport 3" to 2.5" downpipe, a custom driveshaft to go from the turbo tranny to my n/a diff. It fired up right away and man does it move:-} ZOOM ZOOM

I've got to figure out how to get a turbo hood yet so I blocked up the back end of my hood up a couple inches so the intercooler could breath and only put in one of the hinge bolts on either side.

Sounds really nasty with an open downpipe. I'm going to use the stock cat back system until I save up enough coin for a new high flow system.

Starts missing at about 6500 rpm so I probably need a Fuel Cut controler for starters.

Get a FMIC and keep a stealth look, no one will ever know what you're packing

The trouble with FMIC's is they cost a bunch of money. I placed a couple of small painted blocks of wood at the back corners of the hood and only put the front bolts on the hinge. The hood closes okay and the air can pass over the ic. It's only a temp fix til I can find a TII hood close enough to go get.

The intercooler is susceptible to heat soak w/ the TII hood, I'm sure its much worse w/ the n/a hood, even after those modifications.

If I were you I'd keep the n/a hood. Use the money you were going to put into a TII hood and get a FMIC, it'll work much better, and solve your hood problem, all while keeping the sleeperish look. (-ish- only b/c you have a FMIC now but who cares)

congratulations! I was happy when mine first fired up too. but mine is a 90 TII with a JDM Engine. Anyways, do your safety mods first, you will be happy in the long run. I havent had one problem with my engine yet. And for the hood, just get the TII Hood asap, to me (and many others), i think it looks better. also the n/a hood shouldnt be used unless you have a fmic.

What do you mean "missing"? And did anyone else get shocked when they read this?

Did you port your WG? Don't get an FCD unless you have your WG ported.

Oh yeah, and you definitely need to get a boost gauge, like, tomorrow. And order an upgraded fuel-pump asap.

I'm worried about your open downpipe setup. You're just asking to blow your motor without supporting mods. I'm suprised you're not hitting fuel-cut earlier (if that is in fact fuel-cut you're experiencing). Shoot, I'd put you at well over 10psi with no WG port and an open DP.

Why is it so important to get my WG ported before the FCD?

its not more important....if u continue to hit fuel cut you will blow the motor...just get a boost controller and an fcd and keep the boost low untill you get some more suporting mods (wastegate/turbo rebuild) and more importaint get your fuel system upgraded!

^^^^^^^^^ Don't post if you don't know WTF your talking about ^^^^^^^^^

A boost controller CANNOT lower boost - it can only raise it! Ah my god! DIE!

Because you should not be going over 8.6 psi until you get control of your 'boost'. Installing an FCD is like the next step in increasing performance... What you really need to do is limit your performance until it's safe to do so. Keeping the fuel-cut at 8.6psi limits your performance. However, once you port your WG, upgrade your fuel pump and install a boost-gauge (to make sure you're not going above 10psi), it'll likely be safe to remove your fuel-cut, because your car won't want to spike to 10psi+...

Does my reasoning make sense?

Take it from a guy who's blown many motors, keeping your motor safe should be your #1 priority...

reasoning would be to keep off the lead foot until the supporting mods are done. fuel cut can result in a blown motor - overboosting with a FCD installed can result in a blown motor, no win situation unless you can control your right foot.

Thanks for the advice. My right foot has a mind of its own and with the new experience of the boost pushing me back into the seat makes it very happy.
