Just came back from the Powder Coaters

Thought you all would like to see some awesome looking parts for Project GTUs. The upper and lower intake manifold was done gloss black with Super Dust II, the water pump housing was sanded down and ceramic coated with the chrome color.

I like the water pump. The IM's aren't my taste but still look clean.

UV cured? (just wondering how the tape survived if you baked it at 450F)

Why didn't you ceramic coat the manifolds Dana? I can't wait to try out my Powder coater, everything in my hood is getting coated

Edit- almost forgot to say, those manifolds and WP look SICK dude.

The tape the powder coater uses is weird stuff. Its thinner than a peice of paper but feels like plastic. Not sure what it is.

I spent a lot of time looking at pictures of engine bay with everything polished/ceramic coated/chromed and the end result is a huge glop of shiny. There is no definition, you can't tell where one part starts and the other one ends. I wanted to have a contrast in my engine bay. It will all make since when the motor is done.

It's great stuff!

I used to run a Powdercoating Shop, and we would use a specifically designed tape from Scapa:

Product Number: 592
Product Type: Single Sided Tape
Adhesive: Silicone
Thickness: 0.082mm
Markets: Industrial
Substrate: PET Film
Functions: Masking & Protection

Application:
General purpose masking in powder coating applications.

It's really useful, because it's so tough. We could use it to mask off surfaces while glass blasting parts. It'd hard as hell to tear, but cuts beautifully with an exacto knife - and leaves a nice hard edge.

The stuff ain't cheap though!

Yep same exact color, but imagine it next to some polished/ceramic coated parts

Thats about the same color I did my T2 intakes. I used a high-temp paint/clear, and did it all myself, and cured it under a UV baking lamp.I did all the IMs, as well as alot of accessory pieces.I agree with you, I dont like alot of polished parts in the engine bay. The contrast of the metallic black/polished stuff will look awesome though. Great men have similar tastes Looks great.

It's a twinge different than yours . Yeah it's going to look awesome with everything in the engine bay!!! I can't wait. If only the turbo was here sooner.
