Just a ?

Im just wondering how much of u guy with sunroofs like ur car. Like would it make a difference if u didnt have one.

Reason im asking is b/c i have an 87(w/o sunroof) and an 89(with sunroof). And Just wondering if i should keep the 89 just b/c of the sunroof. But also, thinkinng of keeping the 89 b/c of the coupe rims and also its 4 piston calipers and 5 lugs.

haha. I think i pretty much just answered my question. But, I'd still like your opinions.
Thanx for any help.

Pretty quick response. yea i figured that the sunroof is a great asset to a small sports car. And do all the sunroof pop up and roll back. or just tilt up in the back. or do they do both.

mine doesn't have a sunroof..the "other car " does though" ..sort of the best of both worlds..don't want to thread stomp but it's sort of pertains to the sunroof/no sunroof car thing..if the car has no sunroof is it more subseptable to body flex?..(twisting due to torque from the drive train)..(apologies to redFC3Sboy)

My 2nd gen is the base model, so it never had the sunroof. I quite enjoy it, and there's more space for a helmet.

I had an '86 GX with a sunroof. Didn't drive it much (it was a parts car) but the sunroof never worked, and I didn't like the lack of headroom (my hair brushed on the headliner around the sunroof).

My '78 had a glass moonroof which I enjoyed very much. It was great to take it off during the summer and have all that airflow. Leaked a little in the rain though.

My '84 GSL-SE has a sunroof and I'm not sure if I like it yet since I haven't really driven the car any. Doesn't look it will catch my hair, so I guess it's a good thing. Not sure about helmet room yet.

my gtu has a moonroof or whatever which tilts up goes all the way back. i love it. if ya want some air and have no a/c its great cause just having this open is quieter than windows being down. plus i have a wind guard for it that also makes it quiet.

yea. i would probably remove the a/c. since there is some easy performance gain in that.

I love my glass moonroof, and I loved it when it was a sunroof before.

Personally, I look for 7's with a sunroof, but its all personal opinion. For a race car, no sunroof would be stiffer, but on the street I enjoy my sunroof .

i really cant see the no sunroof comparison to having one as being that much stiffer??? maybe some but id rather have one. these are sports car's!! whats a sports car without a sunroof?....and yes i know some did not come with one.

Does anyone have pictures of what's underneath the roof? For all we know it non sunroof models could have a hole for the sunroof to go in anyway, right? Well, maybe it is known, i'm just speculative about it.

The car is more structurely sound without a sunroof, But having a sunroof is way better imo.
I love mine i live i sunny cali and its great to have one to roll down plus my wife loves it and it gives you the feeling like your outside. One thing i dont mind is it has gotten slow from age but nothing a little nugde from da finger wont fix.

I'd kill for a base model with no sunroof.
Sunroofs SUCK.
They rust and drip water on you.

I'd rather have the stiffer chassis and no-worries with no hole in the roof.
Also, some thieves like to pry open the sunroof to break into your car - go figure.

The only thing holding me back is doing an entire turbo drivetrain (and engine) swap into a base model. :P

If I find a super clean base model with no sunroof, I might think of starting up another 20B project...

Ted, they're very common over here. Well, as common as an RX-7 can be when I can go 30 days without seeing one...

Why not just get a sunroof model and weld in a replacement panel?

Down here, they are pretty rare.
I see a lot of base models, but many of them have sunroofs - guess it's the bane of the local climate that makes sunroofs a more attractive option?

I think they are more rare than a Turbo II. :P

Nah, I'm trying to stay away from welding over the roof.
It takes a master craftsman to get the damn curvature right!

I only came across one that was being sold, and the damn thing turned into that F20 powered FC in the other thread.

Chicks dig the sunroof. Especially how our 7's open, most cars have the panel tucked in the roof but our cars actually pop out and lay over. That Looks hot IMO.
