Mark,

I'm DEFINITELY interested in the H3 kit since I have East Bear lights on my car. Am I correct to assume that the H3 kit comes with only low beams? If so, I'll get one kit now and one later so that all four headlights match.

Either way, I'm ready to send money as soon as you say go.

Reese

I'm interested, I can't see crap with my car's headlights, EVEN with the high beams on. Makes mountain driving so much harder.

huh?? are you referring to 9000k? that has nothing to do with how much power itll draw. all the hid kits are 35w the kelvin rating is just the color. the higher you go the more color you get but you also lose light output with more color. brightest will be something around 4300k

Not really... the Kelvin is the color temperature. It has nothing to do with light output (which is measured in Lumens) or the brightness.

I think you are confusing HID with painted Halogen/Xenon bulbs, where to get a cooler temp color (like 10K) there is such a heavy coat of color that the bulbs Lumens output is reduced.

If the bulb has no coating, there is no reduced Lumen output.

In saltwater aquariums the brightest tanks that look like they are in sunlight are actually using 10000K bulbs. Very few reef keepers use lighting lower than 6500K, because it looks so warm and un-natural. 6200- 6500K is the color temp of natural sunlight.

The K or Kelvin rating is simply the color of the light, not the amount or quality.

Now some people (particularlly older people) do not see reds and oranges as well as others. For these people, warmer (5000K-6000K) will seem slightly brighter as these people have a reduced ability to see these colors.

In this case it is simply that because the light being stronger at a K point where normally they can't see as well, makes the bulb seem brighter. If your eyesight does not have this color difficency; 10K will seem just as bright as 5K.

Yeah, that is what they are claiming. I guess I'll see next week when the first kit gets to me.

I have to pay for the group buy here today, but it looks like there is enough intrest to get at least 10 people

There will be an offical Group Buy thread in the Group Buy section tonight for these that I have paid the board for.

I'll post a link over at that time.

The more people that we can get commited the lower the price will go, so tell all your buddies as well.

Well, just so I'm not missing something, the kit would include something like the following:

Two H4 8K bulbs (High/Low)
Two ballasts (with ignitors?)
Wiring & Relay to power the ballasts and relay for the high/low reflector solenoid (if a relay is even used for this, I'm sure you could just use the high-beam power for the solenoid that's already there from the stock wiring)

All for about $300 with 10 people? I'm just kind of amazed since the damn bulbs themselves are almost $150 alone!

Yep, that is correct.

Two H4 Hi/Lo 6K or 8K bulbs
Two ballasts (with integral igniters)
Water resistant harnesses and adapters.

For $300

Not including H6054 style bulb housing (lens)

Or

Two H3 (or H4, H6, H7 or H9) (no Hi/Lo) 6K or 8K bulbs
Two ballasts (with integral igniters)
Water resistant harnesses and adapters

For $200

1 year warranty.

I am doing it at my wholesale cost. I am literally not making a penny on it. (As mentioned earlier) typically these kits go for around $400-$500 retail. However, if this works out I will start carrying them at my webstore, But after this initial buy, then I will need to make a profit on them, so they will be a bit of a mark up then.

Also if we can't get 10 people, the wholesaler came back today with the least I can order is 5 kits and the price jumps up accordingly.

Well, time for me to start saving the pennies, it would be difficult to beat that price even sourcing used items!

There are no more discounts to get. I am doing this at my cost.

I will pass on whatever discounts the wholesaler gives me to whoever participates. He has said he can probably drop another $10-15 for each 10 additional over the first 10.

For example (and don't hold me too it- I have to sit down and figure shipping from Hong Kong and everything still for anything but the first 10 kits) as a rough estimate:

$300 @ 10 H4 Hi/Lo kits
$290 @ 20 H4 Hi/Lo Kits
$275 @ 30 H4 Hi/Lo Kits

Non Hi/Lo kits (like H3, H4, H6, H7 etc) figure $100 less than that.

For just this order.

$70 less at 10 sets bought compared to the Kaixen...how would this compare with that set? The quality on these sets seem kind of questionable since we don't exactly have a lot of information about them...
