JSPEC compression test

I was told if I wanted to test if the compression is good and all the seals are good is to remove and sparkplugs and rotate the engine and listen for 6 gushes.

Here is a movie of the test.

Can anyone comment if it's good?

Thanks

sounds fine to me. I believe the rule is two gusts of air for every one rotation of the flywheel

yeah

if they're LOUD CHUGS things are probably allright
if they'res a few loud and then one or more significantly weaker, there's problems with that motor.

Do it right. Most auto places have a compression tester you can rent, or buy for about $30.

Doing one rotor at a time: Remove the Leading spark plug, and attach the tester. Remove the egi fuse in the engine compartment. Have someone sit in the car, press the gas pedal all the way to the floor, and crank the engine. there should be a valve on the compression gauge, hold it down to bleed off the pressure. Youre looking for 3 even bounces, of atleast high 80ish, 90's psi .

Repeat for the other rotor.

2 low bounces will indicate a blown apex seal, 1 low bounce will be a blown side seal.

Just curious, how would you compression test an engine that's out of the car (no tranny)? By hand you can't turn the engine at a solid 250 rpm for the test.

Rotaries would make great water pumps! I'm surpised we haven't seen any used on Junkyard Wars.

yeah, cuz, you know.. it's easy to compress water.

Oh wait.

no, it isn't.

I suppose you could pump like 50cc per face, maybe.. compared to 500 cc or whatever, the full displacement, on a piston engine.

It just woulndn't work, man...
