Of course, that site doesn't really prove much to me because I don't know the Supra ECU and it's possible someone could have just done a very nice soldering job putting it all back to together.
The claim that you MUST add a daughterboard to tune the ECU can't be true though. That's the way most people probably do it, but you wouldn't have to do it that way. You could burn a totally new CPU chip and swap it in.
I had one for my S4 when it was an N/A and I must say it was worth it to me. There was more agressive acceleration throughout the RPM range. At the time, I did not know about S-AFC's or stand alone EMS' or anything of the sort. Actually, I hardly knew anything about my car at all, lol. BUT, it DID make a big and noticeable improvement at that time. All I had done to the car at that time was a K&N intake, Bonez cat, and HKS exhaust from Mazdatrix. Hope that helps.
I think that site... Is a load of BS he obviously, I mean no company as big as JetChips could do buisness without getting sued this long... by doing what he suggests!

I know in Japan there are a lot of tuners such as Knightsports, and Re Amemiya that use there chips in highly modified Turbo II's, and FD's. If I had my Turbo II in Japan I would either let Knight Sports or Re Amemiya install and tune my car with there chip. Im a firm believer that they do work, but this all depends on the tuner, who's installing the chip, the actuall chip itself, how its programed, and exactly what is removed or modified., Fuel Cut, Rev Limiter, Fuel Map, Ignition Map, etc, etc. I have always belived, and then again what im about to say is my opinion, as well as a opinion from a reputable source that these chips are a waste of time, and money for the Rotary Enthusiast. I believe the JET ECU works, but on certain types of vehicles, and for the money spent on these chips I just dont see how you can feel the "seat of the pants" difference as far as power or accurate Horsepower numbers are concerned with a chip. I know for the Supras they work, as well as the WRX, and other cars, but I would rather spend my hard earned money on something that actually is beneficial as far as upgrades are concerned for my car. In order to back up my theory have you ever seen a Turbo II or a FD pulling some nice numbers at the track or on the dyno use these kind of chips ? I didnt think so. Everyone is using some type of programable or aftermarket EMS because its been proven, and tested time, and time again.
The chip needs to be custom tuned for your car, depending on mods anyway. Why not just get an S-AFC for the same price? Then you can tune based on mods (using dyno/wideband/egt/whatever)
Then if you make more mods requireing the mixture to be changed, go ahead and re-tune the S-AFC.

Just as a side note......
When JetChip sends you the package that you send your ECU back to them in, they do ask you what mods you have done to your vehicle so they can tune the chip accordingly. Whether they do or not, I don't know.
Granted, the tuning won't be near as accurate as you can get with the S-AFC, but I am sure it will be better than the stock ECU. Additionally, you have to spend another couple hundred for the tuning of the S-AFC. For someone looking for a simplistic "plug-n-play" setup, the ECU upgrades might not be a bad idea.

I really don't think Jet could be in business for this long by commiting acts of fraud. You can't believe everything you see on the internet. Most of it is BS. If someone on the board has had any experience like the one that was posted earlier then please, speak up. I was wondering about chipping my car as I am prettymuch done with mods.

. . . . 'nuff said
Just becuase the chip was the same as stock with just a sticker, does not mean it was the same chip. The guy is saying how a ROM is not re-programable, well true, but if he made his own by copying/modifying the original then its not the same now is it?

wow i thought this thread was long gone, i've learned alot since i posted this thread and a jet chip would offer a gain but doesn't seem worth the price for the minimal gain. I also know for a fact that at least some of the jet chips work, i raced a guy from my highschool in my dodge ram he was driving an idenical truck and we were pretty dead even given we both had only exhaust on the trcuks, then he pulled over plugged in his jet chip ( installs in seconds under the hood in a ram) and took me by over a whole truck length, later he removed and sold the chip and bought a hypertech power programerer and set it to run on 93 octane and upped the shift points of the auto tranny by 500rpm, his truck smoked mine after that
it isn't a fraud but there are tons of factors to adding a chip to increase power. the chip is designed with minor mods in mind if any at all, it may help increase power some but it all depends on many factors.
my point is the chips may work well in some vehicles and applications where others they are flat out a waste of money altogether. example of this would be my '90 s-10 pickup, i installed a Jet chip into it, it caused idle issues and a hesitation and a loss of gas mileage with no noticeable gains to HP, i removed the chip and it was like doing the mod from scratch, installing the factory chip restored power and gas mileage. i still have the POS chip in my closet, i would sell it but i am not a thief because i would feel like i was stealing someone's money..
my experience: a waste of $150 but note this was not in an FC so don't take it at face value. IMO the money could be spent on some real mods like intake or exhaust or put towards a standalone.

^ I agree the money for a chip really isn't worth it unless it does alot (like diesel or some turbo cars in which the chip can crank up boost) but for the most part the same money spent on other mods would be a better option, or save up for the ultimate "chip", a stand alone
i heard that superchips had bought the rights to the mdrace.com chip, which supposedly made a nice gain by not only improving the fuel maps but also did some nice timing tricks. example the low and mid range timing was advanced quite a bit and backed off on the top end giving a nice increase across the rev range. i do not know if this is the whole story but i believe thats what i heard a few years back like in 2000 or 2001. i may be wrong so if somebody has more info please share.
