... This isn't entirely true. Most of the power benefit you get from an intake is from the much larger amount of air a cone is able to pull in than the stock snorkel. It might not be ideal to such up all that engine bay air, but it's not terrible either.
the stock snorkle is MORE then big enough for the intake. The snorkle its self is NOT the restriction. The AIR BOX is most of the restriction. The stock intake pulls air from the outside always giving you the coolest air possible which will yeild more power. You stick a cone filter in the engine bay, when your engine bay heats up, you will LOOSE power and WILL have LESS power then before with the stock intake. Trust me.

Will you "loose power"? No.
Yes

I would definitely concur that having an open filter in the engine bay is worse than having a stock filter with a drop-in upgrade.

Thanks for the help, but what I am trying to figure out is what I need to do to have a stock intake box in my RX-7. If that means I need to get another afm and turbo inlet duct, then so be it. But I don't want to restrict my intake tract by getting a smaller afm if I don't have to. And all signs point to me having an RX-7 S5 JDM motor.

I don't think that my engine/transmission came from a Luce. As far as I know, the the 13B turbo engines on the Luce only came with automatic transmissions (JATCO L4N71B). That is for the 89 to 91 model years. There were some very rare manual transmissions on the Luce, but those only came on the 18 valve v-6 models. When I recieved my engine/transmission, it came with a manual transmission (Type R). The same one that came in the S5 Turbo II RX-7's.

Also the Luce was rated at the factory with 180 horsepower at the flywheel. When I had my car dynoed, it was pushing 173 horsepower at the wheels. So unless I got some super duper drivetrain with only a 4% power loss through the drive train, I'm pretty sure I got an engine that has 205 horsepower at the flywheel, with a more realistic 16% power loss through the drivetrain.

Thank you for informing us with such large letters that FD's do not have air flow meters. And thank you for informing me that the Turbo and N/A USDM air flow meters have identical dimensions and fit the same air box. That part was actually some help.

I will try to get my hands on a USDM TII S5 air flow meter and see if it fits into the turbo inlet duct.

Agreed. Thats one of the big reasons I want that stock airbox in there. Well that, and my quick fix is fugly as hell.

i bought a 929 luce engine, its a mix of an s4 and s5 and of course the diffrent oil pan and heater hose being diffrent, oil pressure sensor is eliminated. put it this way its an s5 block with EVERYTHING s4 on it and 2 tps sensors as for the afm its a 318 s4 t2 afm so i doubt its that

Get an S4 air box.
Get an S4 afm adapter
Bolt S4 AFM adapter to airbox
Get a black stock looking silicon coupler, to connect it to the AFM.

Or you could get a reducer to connect it to the S5 air box. Its not like that tiny *** snorkel is gonna' flow that muh air and, youre probably not anywhere near maxing out the afm anyway.

Nah, this dude is obviously a purist, and he wouldn't be able to sleep knowing his car was not 100% of factory specs, all 200 ground thumping hp worth.

you can not put a S4 AFM on a Series 5. you would have to rewire the S4 harness plug on to the S5 harness and your engine may run very lean or rich

Uh, you read that wrong killer. Go back and have another try at it. He is attempting to adapt the s4 airbox''s square hole pattern, to the s5 (or whatever this dude has) afms round pattern.
