jdm turbo engines

i have an 86 that needs a motor rebuild wich would bee a good 2500 bucks from atkins rotary. would it be a good idea to buy a turbo jdm motor off of ebay? does anybody have any experience with doing that? please let me know i dont have much funds for the car and other things have to be done to it. thanks

There is a member here, Japan2la that imports JDM turbo engines. I got one from him, and its still running strong. He has an excellent reputation here on the rx7club.

how much did the motor run you? do u know how many miles were on the motor when you first got it?

Be careful before you buy JDM motors...you might end up spending more than what you would expect like me.

expect to have to rebuild a Jspec motor as well. you will still be in the same boat as you are in now.. except this boat has a larger hole in it.

Yes there are success stories of buying JDM motors and just dropping them in without a rebuild.

However, the motor is out of the car already and with mileage unknown and no idea of what the motor had been through prior to you receiving it a rebuild is recommended.

have you put this engine in your car, im thinking about buying another one but im not sure if i should but let me know how it turns out

The JDM thing 98% of the time only plays out when doing a swap and an existing turbo motor is not present.

damn it so would i be better off just rebuilding the current motor that i have , its got 94k on the motor

same boat ur in kevin, i got a *working but overheating motor.

Wanting to go Turbo so hows a $1200 JDM complete swap sound??

I bought a totaled complete TII and the guy at the yard had the motor running. I decided to have it rebuilt anyway and it turned out that one of the seals was shot, along with the housing. So, beware.
