Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
Actually the S4 Jspec lights were slightly different than the A/USA spec lights. They had a small sticker saying Turbo Rotary on them.
Other than that, the Jspec lights were identical to the A spec /USA spec lights in the respective years.

Japanese tail lights (both sreies 4 and 5) have a smaller number plate area..... (ie, the lights are actually "longer")
You can see the difference in the image that icemark posted... Theres a blank black bit of plastic with the sticker on it as icemark already pointed out.

I know the S5 Euro spec lights are different. They are smaller due to the longer licence plates. On mine when you push the brakes only two light up and there is only one light for the reverse and one for the fog lights. When you turn on the lights all four lights are on.

I know what you are talking about their was a guy that had bought a light kit and did that him self. He also has blue brake bulbs and it looked Red like normal then when you press the brake the lights turn blue and fade back to the normal red once the brake is off.

So us Aussies are the only ones that lucked out on (IMHO) the uglier, smaller, lights without the extended bit?
