Ok I posted something similar to this before. I just got a JDM T2 motor I am pretty sure it came from an 88. but it comes with no ECU. If I got an American ecu will it work(from what I have herd it will). But will a jap ecu be better(what I have herd). What ever answer comes out of this weather it be American or jap. I will need that part if anyone has it or sees it for sail somewhere. Thanks. I also need a t2 88 wiring harness.

Yes your A spec ECU will work just fine. Contact Shane from rotary works he can hook ya up. I just bought a Jspec from shane and I heard so much crap on how I will have to switch this and that. It is a direct bolt in. It runs great. You do not need anything else other than the motor. A lot of emisions stuff is not on the Jspec but who cares. I have heard so much crap on hoe some of the connectors are diffrent and so on. Sorry fellas but that was not the experience I had. Everything plugged right into my stock harness and I am running my stock ECU.

what i was realy asking was would i get more power out of a jap ecu. i should have worded it diff. Also i am kinda new here. who is shane

Yes, you'd get more power, but you'll also probably kill the engine.&nbsp Most JAPANESE ECU's are mapped for like 100 octane fuel, which is like 95 octane in the US.&nbsp The more aggressive ignition maps will kill the engine if you can't get the high octane fuel.

yeah you can use one from a 88 vert as well. That ecu will run it.

In my 90 I'm running a N374 ECU (thats the S5 japan ECU) I've had NO sideeffects that were in any way realted to the ECU. But then again I only run 93 octane and I have removed all emissions so...

Not so. Apart from a few places selling 98RON, the highest octane you can get here is 96RON (Equivalent to about 91MON in the US I think). Nearly all FC's here are Japanese imports, and they have no trouble running on our gas.

AFAIK, 100RON did not become widely available in Japan until the early 90's, so FC's were tuned to run on lower octanes. Even FD's don't seem to have a problem here.

And to clarify the emissions thing, the only emission controls missing from Japanese cars compared to US ones is the pre-cat, EGR valve and AWS system. Of these only the pre-cat would have any effect on power output.

I always found it interesting that despite the lack of pre-cat, Japanese cars were listed as having slightly less power than US models, at 133kW and 146kW (178hp and 196hp) for S4 and S5 respectively. Were the Japanese figures understated or the US ones overstated...?
