JDM FD Steering Wheel Install on a FC

I just picked up a JDM FD steering wheel for my FC (no air bag) , and I was wondering if anyone had instructions on how to install it. It seems to need some sort of spacer in order to fit properly.

I know that the horn will not work without rewiring, I was thinking about just adding a push button switch, at the top of the wheels rear housing (plastic).

The wheel is a very tight when turning, I think it was rubbing against the plastic piece that's behind the wheel, that is what lead me to think a spacer of some sort might be needed, or can I just remove the plastic piece from behind the stock wheel.

I have attached a pic of the wheel that I just got, any thoughts, tips, guidance would be greatly appreciated .

your trying to make 3rd gen stuff fit in 2nd gen stuff... equals probs. look at using some thick plastic and cut to shape, hacksaw, drill, razor blade. you caan find the plastic at home depot im sure.. i seen some flat nylon there. differ thicknesses, up to 1.5" but nylon is harder to work with... good luck!

take off 23 mm nut on wheel (i think its 23mm) gert a new nut if you can. Then take off steering wheel, put on new one, tighten nut, replace wheel cover. Note: i not sure of way to make the horn work with it. The wiring and setup is different, besides, my horns are removed anyways.

Thanks for you input...Any other ideas out there....

I have seen pics of the wheel on other Fc's and an Fb here on the forum, so I know it can be done, however it's not as simple as unbolt and replace because of the plastic pieces and their clearance issues.

pull the metal horn contact from the back of your old FC steering wheel and superglue or epoxy it in place on the back of the FD wheel.

Then cut off the old connector from the FD wheel and use a single blade connector (available at radio shack, home depot, andy electronics store, etc) to connect to the epoxyed horn contact.

The horn will then work just like a FD.

Don't forget you will probably also have to trim down the steering wheel position sensor guide, as the FD wheel sits slightly closer. You will need to trim off about 1/4 inch from the guide.

Other than those two things it is pretty much plug and play.

What piece is the position sensor guide? and where should I trim it down.

I got the horn figured out, thanks

Sorry if I seem lost?

Thanks again.

There is a white (or faded) circular plastic part that has two tabs that stick up, and match into the stock guide holes in the back of the steering wheel. With the FD wheel, the back of the wheel sits about a 1/4 inch closer to the column.

So if you trim (it pops right out so you can do it on the bench) the plastic circular position sensor guide down about 1/4 inch (remembering to leave the tabs that stick up) the FD wheel fits fine. Remember the tabs have to meet up to the holes on the back of the wheel so that the turn signals and power steering work correctly.
