JDM alluminum turbo hood vs. carbon fiber turbo hood
I don't know if this has been discussed before but I want to know what you guys think are the pros/cons of owning either hood.
I'm asking because, recently, due to the rain and potholes, a car spun up a big rock that broke my hood scoop and dented my aluminum hood. Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks

Why a JDM turbo hood...why not a USDM turbo hood?
Also, why not repair your current hood scoop and fix the dent on your current hood? Seems alot cheaper than replacing with a 20yr old hood which is in all likelihood also going to need some repairs and dents fixed.

talking head
the carbon fibre one may just relocate fully intact backwards,, where your head used to be
if your lucky it will shatter and instead spear you with hundreds of arrows that the xray machine cannot see
--flachette--
there is a reason they are illegal in some countries,, collision impact and pedestrian impact reasons

benefits of a CF hood- you can get a "perfect" new one, and paint it, most can be ordered in regular glass and will be cheaper
cons of alum- hard to find good clean hoods without dents, also the adhesive that holds the bracing the skin causes depressions that look like small dents, machine sanding the hood and the heat it generates can really aggravate this problem.
another benefit of the CF hood is the built in scoop
cons of CF- price. if you can find one in good shape the AL hood will be cheaper, possibly have good insulation, and will have the underhood decals

Besides, the real question is, is it worth it for me to repair my dented aluminum hood or should I just purchase a carbon fiber hood, just for cool-factor. Thanks

Hood
Good point. My mad dorito drif bad *** jdm hood got a couple of dents during a storm here in PA and when a local body shop tried to repair it they couldnt.I found another guy that did the work for me and he explained to me that the aluminum is so thin and the underbrace is so cheap that when you apply pressure to the hood it can deform and make things worst. He use heat to pop out the dents a special filler then he worked the whole hood several times until he got it perfect,my scoop was cracked to and he used a product named LORDS BONDING to glue back together. He gave a lifetime warranty on the scoop and he said that it will never crack again.

Thank you for pointing this out. Besides, you people are missing the point - the point is, I recently damaged my hood scoop (alluminum hood), is it worth repairing or should I just get a carbon fiber hood. FYI, a hood scoop is very hard to find, all I can find is a new carbon fiber scoop replacement, which is why I'm asking. Thanks guys!

So you are wanting to replace the entire hood because the scoop is broken. Have you gone to a body shop and gotten an estimate on repairing the current damage?
Here is a link to a company that sells reproduction hood scoops. They are on these forums and some searching on your part would have turned them up.

I'm not at all trying to be rude but the answer is simple. Talk to body shop, compare their estimate to the cost of buying and shipping a hood. Sounds like you've gotten as much info as you can. A carbon fiber hood is going to shatter when it breaks and possibly causing injury. Your current hood may or may not be worth repairing.
Oh and the last part. There is no difference between a JDM hood and USDM hood. Well accept that the JDM hood may have radioactive dirt and spiders. In which case you likely could become the next Thing or Spiderman...but you would be a manga version of those superheroes so you will unfortunately come off as overtly strange to your USDM friends.

I wouldn´t call CF rice straight away. I think buying wet lay CF hoods is stupid, since a normal FRP hood will be just as heavy (or light). Now, this is assuming you paint the hood car color. If you like the carbon fibre look and don´t care about what it costs you can just by a wet lay hood or put CF foil on your FRP hood, both will be rice, yes, and both will be equally heavy.
Now, if you actually care about weight, have a dry CF hood made, which doesn´t have to weigh much more then 2 KGs. It won´t be cheap, it won´t be rice but will be awesome.
