its about time!

well after 2 years of searching... and begging the wife to let me buy one... i am finally a proud owner of an '86 gxl w/76,000 on the clock... bought it from this nice guy for $800 not running... now for the pics

not too great looking yet, but give it some time... and she'll be beautiful...

(sorry for the semi-blurry pics... i was in a hurry and im not used to the settings on my new digi cam.)

not sure yet why she doesnt run, i really havent had a chance to play with her since we moved into our new house and have been painting... but from what the guy said, its not getting any spark and its runs rich... the running rich prob i know how to take care of, but as far as not getting any spark, i still have to looking into... the interior is pretty damaged also (radio surround broken into pieces, idiot light surround missing, arm rest missing, etc.)

one more thing... did some models not come with covers for the rear bins? the carpeting in the rear just covers mine up...

look into the atf trick to get it to start. it might just be a stuck seal and if it is, that deal was a steal. best of luck.

I wouldnt jump to the atf trick yet. If its not getting spark easy enough key in ignition turn key to start if it turns over then you know the seals arnt stuck and dont need the atf.

nice find. i got mine for 800. and it was running ^_^

if its a stuck seal. it can pop out on its own. it can.. but.. i dont know the percent that do....

if any one can tell him how to use mmo on an engine that isnt pulled out.....

i think you'd just have to take off your exhaust. and take out spark plugs. poor some mmo oil in there. have it crank over a few times. let it sit. and clear out the oil.

=/

i aint sure. dont listen to me. but check into the oil .

damn beat me too it...Yea you could go the ghetto pay and with an assist take a plug out wire it up then lay it so the spark will jump to ground. ex block, frame, intake manifold is should be grounded. If there no spark then go to the coils. The primary winding should read alittle under 12v but will switch rather quickly i dont konw if you will be able to read it.

Did you try to unflood it? Check the plugs to make sure they're good? Compression test?

thanks for reminding me... i do remember him saying it was flooded... hopefully when i get some free time ill start digging around and check/replace the plugs and do a compression test...

the cheap way to test compression is to take out the leading plug and efi fuse and crank her over and listen for pops... right?

just because the engine will spin doesnt mean the seals are free. you really need to do a compression check. how long did the car sit?

Check the crank angle sensor. disconnect the connector. on the crank angle side you should read a resistance of 110-210 ohms bewteen the top right and bottom right terminals thats if the little tab that the other other connector slides into is on top. Yea my bad about that comment i was being stupid. you should disregard those..sorry...well if you dont have a compression test you can pull the plugs and listen for a swoosh sound coming out of the plug hole. like a ghetto test. you should hear consectutive swooshes right after another if its not consective then you have a compression problem.. that is a ghetto test and i would defintly opt for the 20 comp tester and rip out the bleeder..
