Ionoe either man, damn.

I don't think a TPS can cause excessive backfiring. Set it to 1VDC at idle and be done with it.

i would pull the fuel pump sending unit and check for a clogged/dirty fuel sock. also make sure your fuel filter isnt clogged.

dam sry i was in a hurry typin. could of just ask nicely i hate when ppl ****** do that im just tryin to learn n was in a hurry typin. wat i was sayin is i know a clogged pre cat and cat. causes backfire/misfire. what im askin is would the fuel injector be also the reason, like if the fuel the fuel injector kinda sent out more fuel then needed. i change my cat already and sum how im gettin the same results. it only does it when im in a high gear like 3rd-5th gear or in this case highway, when i step on the gas pedal to accelerate even more it just backfires/misfire also i slow down instead of speeding up. is there any problems u guys noe of fixing this problem. sry for the bad language i just dont like it when ppl are such asses, when all im doing is trying to learn and fix my car.

welcome to the wondeful world of owning a rotary engined car. i've owned 26 RX-7's over the last 10 years and every one that ran that i've had has backfired here and there. the early rotaries (79-80 RX-7's) with the thermal reactor are backfire champions. between nearly every shift there is a little pop or a spit. i kinda like it.

alright well thanks. can anyone help me a bit. is it bad that its backfiring like that im mean excessivly. i cant even accelerate in highway fast enough to go with the flow of traffic. it start about after 20-30min of driving. only time it goes away is if i stop the car then wait for a long time then its good for another 20-30min of driving.

Alright, well thanks everyone. Can anyone here help me at all?

Is it bad that my RX-7 backfires? It does so excessively.

I'm having a hard time keeping up with the rate of acceleration for highway speeds.

(Don't understand the rest :p)

Well his situation is different apparently. He's backfiring while he's accelerating.

I would start with a tune up. Change out your spark plugs and wires. If your plugs are fouled out you may get backfire and power loss. REALLY clogged out cats could cause the same thing.

+1 on the plugs. Check them before you do anything else. Check the wires as well.

By "straight pipe" you mean do it on the cheap and hollow out the cats? If so Best thing you could ever do unless you have inspections or money for a real exhaust.

mine used to back fire too but when i bought it it was also catless, it was actually a funny story i bought two ignitors from a used parts place then went to advance auto and the manager ordered me plugs but he ordered me the same heat range so i took them back and he as asking me what was wrong or some **** and im like its backing firing and a little sluggish, and he said "oh it could be your rings, you should check them out" and i said yea ill go check the rings on my rotary, do you stock a rotary ring remover tool? and he says no i dont think so, then he tells me to check the gap in the plug, i never laughed so ******* hard in my life!

Make sure the TPS is plugged in, and adjust it according to the FSM.

If the problem remains, test the TPS as per the FSM.

i think my tps is fine but i just adjusted it cause of my idling problem. at WOT it doesnt even get close to 6k ohms its between 4k-5k ohms so im ok. i saw it in fc3spro how to adjust it. the thing is it dies on cold start but doesnt when its warm, i will be trying to fix that soon it cant be my throttle stop screw since it doesnt die when its warn. well i had the backfiring problem way before i adjusted the tps. thanks for the help. i guess i'll see if it still happens when i straight pipe it. if it is my cat/precat. but if any of you guys know anything else i'd appreciate it thankss.
