Interior wiring question

I am in the process of putting my dash back in. I have an '87 GXL. I thought that I marked all of the plug connections but I guess not. On the same mini wiring harness as the cig. lighter and the light socket for it, is another little harness that has another light socket (158/194 bulb size), a 2 pin female plug with an orange and a black/yellow wire, and a 2 pin male plug with a black wire and an orange wire. I am pretty sure that the socket did not have a bulb in it. The harness that I am talking about starts about 8" before the cig. lighter stuff. I need a digital camera. I hope I was clear enough. I searched......I need to know where these go. I know a bulb could go in the socket, but what does it light up? The male connecter looks like it could have hooked up to the old stereo, but it is not on the stereo wiring harness. The smaller female plug? I can't find a male plug that size anywhere. Please help. thank you.

If you "thought" you marked all of the plugs, then you probably did, which means you've just discovered some spare or options wiring, I would think. I remember the cig lighter illumination wiring was red/black or black/red, right?

i use a procedure called witness to find out if it is an unused plug or not, note that it is not as easy to follow for female connectors.

look at the inside of the connector housing, is it dirty with no signs of another connector having been plugged into it? if no then you can check the pins, if they are male you will see lines on them where they were dragged across the females to provide continuity, if they are clean with no marks at all then it is safe to say the connector was never used in your car.

i have noticed in these cars there is ALOT of unused connectors, sometimes it scares me not knowing the history of the car and trying to read mazda wiring diagrams can be tough sometimes.

thanx for the reponse guys, I will give em a good visual test A.M., but I was sort of looking for something a little more solid. I have added an alarm along with power door locks, remote trunk opener, an L.E.D. scanner that activates when the alarm turns on, and now I am trying to figure out how to hook up the window roll up module when the alarm activates. What I am getting at is I have run about a mile of wire and taking out the dash again to hook up something is not gonna be fun.

When You Put The Dash Back, Remember To Really Tighten The A/c Plug. When I Removed My Dash To Paint, It Was A Bitch To Snake My Arm Thru The Radio Part The Connect Them Again. Good Luck, And As Stated By The Fellow B4, It Is Very True, Many Wires Will Be Found Inside The Dash Area And Other Ares That Will Have No Use At All, Wierd Is, Some Give Off Electrical Charge Hahahahahah. Damn Japs Lol. Gotta Love Them

GBone,

Wayne88N/A probably has it right about it being an unused extra wiring option. I have my dash out now, too, in my 87TII and there's a red/black wired socket that is unused upline from the wiring leading to the cig lighter. Just stay cool and take your time. You'll really enjoy that keyless entry. The remote popping hatch is also very cool when you have your hands full walking up to the car in a parking lot. I have all that stuff too. And yes, there's lots of wiring. Good luck.

thanx again you guys. Yes, I took it out to paint and to convert the whole car from grey to black. New carpet too. My wife is making leather seat covers that look and fit just like to stock ones....look great. I think you guys are right about them being unused connections. I dont remember disconnecting any of them. I was able to make all the connections with the dash not bolted to the frame. I think I have them all secure, I also put dielectric grease on all connections. Not to mention replaced all the bulbs on the instrument cluster, glow guages and pedals.......been a long project so far. thanx again.
