interior rattle

When I go down the highway, or any road for that matter and I hit a bump my dash seems to rattle like CRAZY. If I go up a hill and have the car under a heavy load it starts to rattle.

What can I do to reduce these rattles? Loose and most likely brittle plastic scares me. I hate to break anything because red interiors do not seem to get parted out often.

Does anyone else even have these problems? I thought about trying to carefully stick something similar to weather stripping(thin foam with an adhesive side) around mounting points.

I searched and had no luck finding rattly interiors...

Narrow down where its coming from, try pushing on the area when your driving to see if that stops it. Once you figure out whats vibrating, do something to keep it from vibrating such as fix a loose/broken piece, wedge some padding/fabric under it etc...

Are you running the stock rubber mounts for everything in the drivetrain?

Ive thrown away two complete mint red interiors, I tried giving it away but had no luck. After swapping from red to black in my car there are absolutely no rattles.

You just need to take it apart and figure out whats banging arround and fix it. There is no single silver bullet here.

That's right. You can sometimes figure out the location of the rattle using the method mentioned above; apply pressure to the panel(s) that seem to be buzzing so you can isolate the problem. I've had success putting thin weatherstripping behind things (part of the glovebox door) and also thick black felt (the rearview mirror mount).

Damn, I wish I would have known about the red interiors...and I will start to press on things since I'm going for a drive today. Most of it seems to be in the upper area of the dash, and going over large just seems to make EVERYTHING move.

Yes rubber mounts everywhere. I believe the engine mounts need to be replaced because I get a horrible rattle at around 800-900 RPMs. If I rev it up just a little to about 1000 it will go away, but once it settles back down it shakes the whole car. (rebuilt engine,20k, not sure if original mounts were used since I did not own the car at the time of being rebuilt)

Take a friend with you for rattle diagnosing. That way he/she can do the pressing and you can still focus on stuff like steering, shifting and braking!

If you haven't already done this, maybe you should post a wanted ad for red interior stuff. Personally I kind of like the red interiors but many people hate them with a passion.
