interior plastic spray

Are there anything out there to spray faded/dull interior than replacing the interior parts?
I've seen some automotive carpet spray and plastic spray but not sure how it will hold up in the hot sun. Anyone has any experience?

I think the spray will be fine, for less than $10 a can its still much cheaper than buying new parts so I'd give it a try. I've used it on my seats and it didn't hold up well, I never really let it dry though cause I was anxious to drive the car with nice supportive TII seats instead of the shitty GXL ones lol.

There are several companies that make plastic parts coating in a variety of colors. The key is to thoroughly clean the parts ( alcohol works well ) and spray light coats with dry time between coats. I've done parts and seats with excellent results. I even did interior parts for the 1st AVX ( Avanti re-do on a Firebird chassis ) which was featured at the SEMA show at the NAPA Booth. Done properly it will hold up fine, even on seats.

I used some spray paint for plastics on my trim to turn them from grey to a closer match of the red/brown color on my interior. Worked great and still is great. I think its only been about a year though.

My plan is to convert a grey s4 to a black s5 interior, and spray the parts that dont work, ie, for the seatbelts.

I wonder what brand holds up best.

Yea...you and me both. I rather hear from people who used products and learned what worked and didn't work. I don't want to end up with seats bleeding colors onto the pants and paint cracking from UV.

I highly recommend UV protection paint. and dont be cheap lol. spray at least 8 coats and go can crazy with the clear. Krylon has ok paint and the price is right, you can pick it up at any home depot. my interior was that ugly red color

another note, if you want that gloss shine, DO NOT GO FULLY GLOSS..... Why?? because when you are driving in the direct sunlight, the gloss will reflect off the windsheild and you will get a really wicked glare..

Semi-gloss will do fine.

Go to your local NAPA store. They have in spray cans or if they mix paint, can custom mix a color for you. This gives you the ablity to match your other interior pieces and has the right appearance when finished. Properly applied this lasts for years with no problem. Just for reference, I was a Sherwin Williams/Martin Senour rep and speak from direct experience. Napa also sells a plastic primer which helps with adhesion.

I first sprayed a layer of oil based black, then I spray a water based red, this will cause the paint to kinda cogugalate. then while the paint is still wet, place a flim of seranwrap on top, with your fingers, just make a patern, dont let the seranwrap fully cover the whole piece, you want it to have a wrinkle effect. pull it off, wait till its dry, then clear coat the **** outta it.

I think the whole dash is too extreme IMO. I did the small pieces just to make them stand out. if you do the whole dash, that means you will have to to all the way to the shifter and armrest. See what I mean, very extreme lol. Then again, Do you man.
Yes, it was all spray, but not rattle can, I used rattle can for the dash only. the red/black pieces were done with sprayguns. since getting rattlecan oil and water based paint are a little harder to find. It was easier for me to mix my own

I have used them before and they work fine just make sure to clean all of the gunk out of every crack and crevasse cause it won't set right if u don't. And make sure to do it in several light coats or it won't soak in right and you will have runs. As for standing up in te heat and sun I live in New Mexico where it is perpetually hot and sunny and mine stands up just fine. Some of the harder plastic though won't hold it as well and I have to do touch ups every now and then when it gets roughed up too much from people ect.

In my convertable, I used outdoor lawn furniture spray. Works great. When I have the top down and its 105+ degrees out, its fine. I painted the surrounding around my shift stick, (which that whole area gets really hot because of exhaust) and its fine. I'll post pics up later.
