Cool Interested in buying a 2nd generation RX-7, have some questions.

I currently own a 1993 Honda Accord coupe, with a JDM f22a installed, the power output compared to other Accords is by far better. However, I want a late 80's Turbo car, because I like the body style. I am looking at a 88 300zx Turbo rightnow, but Like the 2nd Generation RX-7 bodystyle much better. I don't have the slightest clue about rotary motors, or mazda's in general. My question is, What years/models had turbos? and is it Single or Twin? and what is HP/torque? and stock 1/4 mile times? Just basic specs of the car, I am looking for turbo, NA is boring to me, I have driven several boosted hondas and I love em, but quite frankly i do not want a boosted honda, tired of being labeled as a ricer, i want to step up to the big boys. Any comments?

Im pretty new to RX7's also but I'll try to help you out. The 86-92's all had turbo models available. The 2nd gen used a single turbo set up, with the S4's (86-88 I think?) making 182 and the S5's (89-92?) making 200hp. Not sure on 1/4mile times, everyone says something different but id say maybe mid to high 14's stock.

86-88 turbo's are a lot easier to find then the 89-91.

well the price range will basicly boil down to the condition of the car itself. I have seen them down to $500 (not running) and i just had a friend sell his 90 TII for $9000. (with lots of mods)

Just be careful when you do find one...search around here for things to pay attention to when buying one, so you don't get burned.

Higher compression?

Are you buying the car for looks or performance?&nbsp The 300Z's (Z31) are HEAVY!

I don't have the slightest clue about rotary motors, or mazda's in general.
This is why you ask questions...I would also suggest you do searches on here and on the web. http://www.monito.com/ is an EXCELLENT reference to all this rotary engine...

My question is, What years/models had turbos?
Officially in the U.S., from 1987 and up...&nbsp The FC3S (turbo) from 1987-1991.&nbsp The FD3S from 1993 to 1995.&nbsp All all reference to U.S. importation.&nbsp Dunno what the acronyms stand for?
http://fc3s-pro.com/abb.html

and is it Single or Twin?
FC3S only had one turbo.
FD3S has two.

and what is HP/torque?
FC3S Zenki turbo - 182hp, 183lb/ft
FC3S Kouki turbo - 200hp, 200lb/ft (I am not sure on the torque spec)
FD3S - 255hp

and stock 1/4 mile times?
Magazines have run anything from a high 14 to a low 15.&nbsp I typically quote 15.3 for either the Zenki or Kouki model (they are with a few tenths of each other - despite the higher power on the Kouki, it is also heavier)

Just basic specs of the car, I am looking for turbo, NA is boring to me, I have driven several boosted hondas and I love em, but quite frankly i do not want a boosted honda, tired of being labeled as a ricer, i want to step up to the big boys. Any comments?
Do a search - there are several web pages dedicated to the majority of questions you're asking...

Or you can be like me and plan on spending 10K plus rebuilding one from scratch..... of course access to aircraft quality parts is an option for me as well so that might help defer some of my cost but not much. New Dual N1s, Jspec engines, Machine work, ect all still costs the same

I'm considering buying an FC soon, and could someone list some of the common problems that are on FCs, or what to look for? I don't want to end up with a money pit...
