Interest in custom badges

Hey..

Well, ive been thinking about custom badges for my car ever since i painted it and left off the dumb looking stock ones... and the machine shop where i work just got a waterjet machine :-D

so...i'm definately gonna make these for myself, just wondered if anyone else would be interested and how much you would consider paying.

My basic idea is to have a rotor shape with RX-7 centered across it. It would be cut out of thin guage aluminum, and I can polish them or maybe have them powdercoated for extra money.

the machine we have can cut out any shape and also has etching capability, so I can make the letters show up across the rotor. I can also do as much detail on the rotor as i feel like, including etching out the corner seal and side seal marks, etc.

so what do y'all think?

Pat

that sounds kinda interesting! could you draw up a pic of what your thinking of? that would give people a better idea of what the finished project might look like.
i think these would be pretty cool-for cars and for decorative items

i thought about that once, even drew some up in autocad, but then decided that i like keeping the car looking as stock as possible.

I'm interested to see what you throw together though

Very cool... I'd buy some if I had some money. lol

I would make stock look-alike badges all around in brushed and clearcoated aluminum to match my 88 GXL wheels.

usually a lot of interest will show but when time comes to ask for money don't expect alot of action around here...

i like the idea though, it would be nice to have some AE style badges for the FC.

Even if its just for yourself, I still wanna see how they turn out, having a good aftermarket badge is a nice accent to an already good looking car

I've been wanting to make some SAVANNA badges for my Turbo II. Just the lettering in that classic Mazda font to go on the fender behind the front wheel well (where my trim used to be.) I was going to cut the letters out of a sheet of plexiglass but your way sounds easier.

I also think the rotor shaped badge would be really sweet. Perhaps a rotor with "Savanna" over it?

I would post a picture of my custom badge (sticker) but I have never been able to upload pictures, something is wrong there. If somebody could help me figure out why I'd sure appreciate it...
Anyway, its sort of a cartoonish rotor with the vapor trail like lines that make it look like it is spinning, and the gears on the inside look like shark teeth. Its made out of carbon fiber looking vinyl.
I have some that I would sell for $4.00 in CF, silver, and pewter, if I can post a photo.

sorry guys, my photoshop subscription is expired, so i cant convert jpeg files to autoCAD anymore... so i will have to custom draw them...and since i dont have much free time...it will probably be wednesday or thursday before the pics are up.

I like the Turbo II idea, i might do that, someone post up a pic of the stock stickers, i dont have mine anymore.

I may also consider the 1.3 L idea, or possibly something like " 1.3 Rotary" in nice lettering, but my main focus is still the front and rear center rotor with rx7 across it.

If i'm gonna make a bunch of these, i'll have to check with my boss and get shop pricing, if i just made a few of one style, i could do them myself...

I'll get back to this thread monday night, and try to have a pic to post up by then if i can.

Pat

hey patman, just turn the clock back on you computer heh, it works for some but not for all. I've seen a 1.3T emblem from a golf turbo on a 13bt 1st gen, it looked really nice. I got a turbo emblem from an early model eurospec turbo golf, all caps, matches the "RX7" emblem on the trunk really good. cost me $15 new off ebay.
