intercooling piping

1)thinking about diong a custom job on my and my friends turbo. we are going to use exhaust piping not sure if we are going to use stainless steel or not. we can get our hands on that stuff fairly cheap. or just use regular exhaust piping and jsut paint it with high temp pain. just wanted to make sure it was ok to use exhaust piping?

2)also can we use those rubber plumbing connectors? you can find them at sears hardware or home depot , black big rubber things they use for pvc i think. they are pretty thinck and seem they would hold up fine. cheaper than bying them over the net and having to wait for shipping. anyone try these? will they hold up to temp?

just going to use them where bend are to sever if any, cause you can get those rubber things in some nice bends already made.

let me know thanks.

3)also had thought about wrapping it all in that stuff jegs has to resist heat, like header rap or something of that sort. to keep the air inside the intercooler piping cool. any thought on that?

those sewer pipe things will work fine, same with the exhaust pipe. Just make sure to use T bolt clamps instead of the worm gear clamps.

Use stainless. If you must use mild steel, ceramic coat it. You don't want rust, and intake air can be very moist at times.

No. Use either rad hose (the cheap way) or silicone connectors (the expensive way). The PVC couplers aren't really designed for a high temp environment, though many have used them with success. They get VERY soft when they warm up.

Sure. Looks ugly, but works. Definitly need stainless for this application, because moisture gets trapped and rots out steel.

Ya those rubber couplers suck, i used them for the TID mod, and everytime my turbo would get hot, they would get soft and fall off.

Thermal coating on the pipes doesn't really do much good. I don't think it's worth the trouble unless you do it just for looks.
