Intake question

I am taking off my intake today so I can replace all those little vac hoses under the intake and that rear coolant hose that is impossible to get too. Is there anything else I should go ahead and take care of while I have it off? Maintenance or Performance. Either way. Thanks guys

I would just clean everything and check out your filter.

Might as well do the fuel lines while you're in there.

Get about 20' of 5/32 vac line...better to have a little left over than to run out.

A tip for removing the old hose...
Most people will recommend slitting the old hose with a razor to free it from the nipple.
Total PITA.

Much easier method...
Cut the hose about 1" after the nipple end and twist with some pliers.
It'll pop right off.

Check your pulsation dampener for leaks, maybe if you have time send the injectors for cleaning. Make sure you have new gaskets for the intakes. Make sure you 5/6th port actuators open freely if this is an N/A.....

Oh yea, and replace that coolant hose that goes from under the oil filter to the firewall, that thing exploded on my recently and i've read its common. luckily I was able to fix it with some regular heater hose.....

And clean your grounds....

Thats fine when vac lines are on metal nipples, but I would cut the vac line off anything that has plastic nipples(like solenoids) as I have seen ones this old break off from attempting to twist.

I actually already replaced all of the vac hoses besides the ones under the intake. What would "doing the fuel lines" entail? Cleaning? Replacing?

I actually decided to postpone taking it off today because I had to order the PD. Guy at mazda gave me a great deal on it. 90 bucks. I spend enough money there so he should. Haha.

The car is actually my daily driver for now while the tranny is out of my truck so I can't afford for it to be down for more than like 2 days so I can't get my injectors cleaned even though it would be nice.

Found this out the hard way when I replaced all the other vac lines.

Thanks for the responses

no, that is the hard metal vacuum lines, you just want to replace all the soft rubber hoses. You could maybe spray some carb cleaner through the metal lines to clean up anything it might have, if it does. This is optional....

Oh, I assumed you had an s5 (they are metal spiders on these). If you can, you might as well replace those while you are at it too...
