Intake Question

This may sound stupid but I was think this whale I was cleaning my engine bay out.

What is the diffrents in intake and exhaust? and I dont mean one sucks and one blows :P I mean the diffrents in heat and reasions what is used in making the pipes out of what they are (intake cast iron? exhaust ss).

My reasion is simple. Why can't you use exhaust ss pipe to make a intake? if you had the pipe and weilders that is.

stupid I know but I just wandering.

thanks.

Which part of the intake are you taling about? None of it's made of cast iron, it's mainly plastic and aluminium.

what's the point of changeing you exhaust? or port n polish a intake? or any mod? I guess if you running a high power engine that needs a better intake than stock intake manifold why not use exhaust pipe?

some babbling of mine hehe I really dont know what would be the "point" to be diffrent? or mabe better gains?

I guess you could...but the reason that each material is used for that application is because SS can withstand heat well, etc.

Why go with something thats made for really high temps and explosions when you can buy something thats made for just cool air?

NZConvertible: I'm talking about from the dymic chamber down saw this post made me start thinking:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hreadid=272418

before the tb you could use anything I know that but after? looking at that post just wandering how to use the stock tb but with a better flowing design lim or something like that. bah rambling again sorry.

ocelot: true but would it not figure in that if it's made for high temps and explosion than it would stay cool better/longer and if you are turboed (though I'm not) it can hold up to more psi?

Mage "rambling about an stupid idea thanks for reading!"

Ah ok, good, 'cause its not cast iron
it's cast aluminium.

Only reason _old_ cars had cast iron intake (and just about everything else) was for cost purposes. Thats all.
