I have always used both the HKS and K&N units and have been equally happy.

k&n offers better filtering, HKS offers higher air flow.
i would personally go with the k&n

In my opinion, the best air filter in the universe is the Weapon R dragon air filter. Its a foam "very high air flow" filter that looks bad *** and has been proven to have more HP gains than any other. Good luck!

Well, "in my opinion", you are wrong.

Foam filters die very quickly. They filter horribly.

The best filter + air flow ever tested/proved is the A'pexi power intake filter. More HP gain then any other filter.

what you should do is get all the different ones, and test them out

every company is going to say that they have "the best ever tested" so that you will buy theirs

.... but I don't think those are '"cold air intake" he is looking for... I don't remember if someone sells it but I think most folks make by themselves with a cone filter.

Most people buy a Honda Prelude cold air intake off ebay ($20-40, shipped or + shipping, depending on the buyer) and cut it, to make it go down to the front bumper. A very effective cold air intake.

Actually, there was a japanese magazine that did a test of the major intake filters (HKS, Apex, K&N, etc.) They all had the same HP gains within 1 or 2 HP. The HKS was by far the worst at filtering, while the Apex and K&N were the best.
As far as CAI's go, I can only think of one that is actually made for our cars. Its sold on corksport for quite a bit, and uses the Apex filter.

As for the HP claims, don't believe them. According to this magazine, which tested on a Mk IV Supra the gains from all of those filters was around 8 HP. The gains may differ by car, but the fact remains that the gains are all similar. I wish I could find the link to that magazine article.
Edit: I actually found the article! http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/
Apparently they all had a gain from 13-14 HP, but the core facts are the same: the gains are all similar, and the HKS sucks *** at filtering.
