Angry Insurance Question

I am with Progressive Insurance. I have liability only. The Insurance company classifies my 88n/a GTU as HIGH PERFORMANCE based off of the VIN number only. Is this correct? I have called MAZDA and asked them the correct classification of my year and make, but they only list it as a sport car GTU-P. Nothing mentioned about high performance.

Can anyone give me some advice or insight. I'd love to get that HP listing off my insurance and have a lower policy

THANKS

all sport cars are listed as high performance just so they can charge you more.

there are ways of lowering the insurance though, first is by removing the storage bins and adding a rear seat which, if i believe correct, takes your car out of the sport car listing by removing the 2 seater sports car criteria. 2nd is by adding a relay to make your headlights turn on with the car making them daytime running lights. there is others but i can't remember off the top of my head.

If they're basing it off the VIN, those additions may not help. Best to ask your insurance, or better yet, shop around. Dosn't Progressive give you quotes from other companies?

well yeah i would definitely be sure they would cut you the break but then again i'm a hardass when it comes to getting jerked around, we are talking about a 18 year old car so the insurance should not be astronomical, most all cars bought today have higher HP ratings and weigh about the same as the n/a FCs do. if they don't want to take off discounts i would find someone who does or just simply has a better rate.

Speeding tickets and a sports car = high insurance for me. Should go down next year though.

Roger that.

Oh well was just curious....guess I'll just have to eat my 118 per month liability only
Same boat....speeding tickets and sport car = expensive policy, just wished I could have lowered it without the high performance classification.

Thanks for the input fellas.

Thats why it's so cheap. Get it on your own and look out. I pay 340 every 6 months with a clean record and over 35.
