Insurance question
Insurance question
I'm sure this has been asked a million and one times but...
How much do you pay for insurance on a TII?
I'm 17, have a clean record, took drivers ed, get good grades, and am only looking for liability (spelling?).
I'm wondering if the quotes I am getting ripped off.
Oh yeah. Its a 89.

It's been covered enough times - try do a search.
If you're trying to get insurance under your own name, expect quotes in the $2,000+ / year range...no joke.
You're still a minor - get your parents to agree to keep you under their insurance policies.
Prices will drop drastically.

I'm maried and under 25, my insurance barely dropped. My wifes insurance dropped by 1/3rd. I hate how damn sexist insurance companies are, every 17-22 year old girl I see drives horribly, they scare me. I abide by the laws and try my best to be a considerate safe driver, but I'm the one that gets it in the ***.
There's a lot of very good car insurance FAQ's out there.
Try and do a web search for them.
I dunno what coverages you have, but some of them are really unnecessary.
The car is old.
There is not reason to have a low deductible on most of the coverages.
If you're going to insist on collision and comprehensive, raise the deductible to at least $500 or even up to $1,000 or more.
Trying to claim really small things on an old car is never an advantage.
If you can do without them, drop the col and comp coverages.
The car really isn't worth that much, and you're better off getting another FC if it does get majorly trashed.
Also, if you don't get into many accidents, any accident that is not your fault is claimed on the other person's policy.
This brings us into un-insured and under-insured coverages.
There are good arguments for this type of coverages, and most times their additions doesn't add much to your premium.
People driving around with no insurace should be SHOT in the first place!
If you own a house, get your auto insurance grouped with your home insurance policy!
You won't believe the drop in premiums when you do this.
In reality, most insurance companies will not pay over $2,000 to $4,000 for any FC.
There are very few exceptions for higher pay-outs, and getting an insurance company to pay out higher is a royal pain in the ***.
Due to this fact, it's best to stick with basic liability that your local laws require.
FC's are relatively cheap and easy to find, so even if your baby gets totalled, getting another FC is not that big of a deal...
If you've got ANY moving violations on your record, this doesn't apply to you.

Oh, another trick I forget is home address also makes a big difference.
Being in an urban area, insurance companies deem this more risky.
If you live in a suburb or way in the country, expect your premiums to drop.
I know this doesn't apply to most of you unless you can easily move house.
Try playing around with those online instant quotes websites like Progressive.
You can change the zip code, and see if this changes your premium quotes.

I am 16 and own a 1986 non-turbo model. I am on my mother's plan... just liability. It costs me $145.00 a month. It was the same price for my 1988 Dodge Caravan! The caravan got u-turned into... and the insurance company totalled it. The van was worth $950 at most and they ended up giving me $2085! That is why I am now the proud owner of an RX7.
well i have a 2 tickets: and drive a 89 tII
1: speeding 20 over in my old 1st gen
2: illegal use of the lane AKA a minor moving violation
im 20 yrs old
they wanted about 400 to 450 per mother for full coverage
and they wanted about 175 month for liability uninshured motorist and medical if i pay a 6 moth tem it is only 745.

Please call your insurance agent for a quote... asking here is pretty useless, as you will get people responding that are not your age, do not live in the same area you do and have different driving records.
